Over the summer my coworker Chris and I have tried to get together to fix a scuff mark down the right hand side of his Black Hyundai Veloster. It just never happened so last weekend Chris took some Turtle Wax rubbing compound to it and removed the scuff. Unfortunately he was left this on his paint:

I told him we'd fix it ASAP in the compressor room in our laboratory. It is clean, well lit and roomy enough to easily work in. I first cleaned the left side of his car with Eco Touch Waterless Wash. I then clay barred it. Since I've read on other detailing forums how stupid soft the Hyundai black paint is I started with the least aggressive method I could think of: M205 on a white foam polishing pad. WOW! It worked! I got the vast majority out but under the right light I still saw scratching:

I decided to step it up a notch so I used M205 on a 6" Meguiar's Microfiber polishing pad followed by another pass with the foam pad. Even better! Here's a 50/50 shot showing final and untouched panel:

All gone and only we know where to look to see what little remnants were left behind.

Did I get it perfect? Nope! But I wasn't trying for perfect and I didn't have the time either but Chris was very pleased with the results and is happy he didn't need a respray.
