  • 09 TSX Paint Correction

    Hi All,

A couple weekends ago, I spent the day detailing my father's TSX. The paint was in pretty bad condition with lots of RIDS and swirl marks all over. This was the first nice car our family bought, so I was glad I was able to do a decent job in restoring it's finish.

Here are the steps I took:

    1. Wash with Megs Gold Class Wash
    2. Clayed with the soapy water (was trying something new and it seemed to work pretty well)
    3. Dried with Megs Water Magnet and misted some Mother's detailer to remove some water spots
    4. Megs Ultimate Compound
    5. Megs Ultimate Polish
    6. Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax

One thing I would like to note is that the Ultimate Liquid Wax was really hard to wipe off. It seemed to have a "staining" effect if I left it to dry/haze (even for a few mins). When I was applying it, I pretty much treated it like Ultimate Polish where I would apply it with the DA then immediately wipe it off. If anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong that would be much appreciated. Having said that, the results of my technique seemed to be pretty good .

Here are some before pics (it has not been washed...the dirt and water spots are from the rain the day before):

    Here are the afters:

You can see I missed a few spots near the tailight and the swirls are popping out...oh well.

Admittedly, the lighting in the after shots are a bit more favourable for taking nice pictures, but the correction should be quite obvious. Thanks for looking and any feedback is welcome!

Great job and improvement! Looks like new!

The ULW staining effect sounds normal. You did the right thing by applying and removing it a panel at a time. Another way to fix the staining effect is to spray a light mist of water as you're wiping the ULW off.

Thanks Marc08EX for the tip - I will definitely keep that in mind next time. I thought the hydrophobic properties of the ULW wouldn't go well with water though.

It was recommended here in MOL. I will try to search for it and let you know if I find it.

I just waxed my car with ULW and had the same staining problem. I wiped the entire car down with a very light spritz of water. The next time I washed the car, it was beading like crazy so the hydrophobic properties remained intact.

        Hope it helps.

          Great work!

Yeah, the ULW streaking is common, especially on black cars.

As Marc stated, to fix it you can either apply / remove one panel at a time, or mist some water onto a MF towel and even the streaks out.

            Thanks for the advice guys.

At one point I was ready to give up on ULW (only my second time using it), but I decided to tough it out since I know there are so many good reviews for ULW. It's good to know there is an easy solution for the streaking.

Nice job. I found the ULW streaks when applied to thick or if the surrounding temperature is high. If it does streak a little QD works great.

Awesome result! I have had ULW streak on me too. Like everyone suggested I misted the panel with water and they went away. Its right now my favorite on our Mazda.

I hope Meguiar's comes out with a revised ULW that doesn't streak.

In an ideal world it would be Ultimate Quik wax.^

LOL - I always thought there was eventually going to be a problem with naming a product "Ultimate". It doesn't really give them much room to move does it?
