  • 1974 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400

New customer called wanting his Formula 400 Detailed for a car show. This vehicle wasn't very dirty when I arrived so I did a basic detail.

    Exterior:

Foam Wash with CG Mr. Pink w/ Foam Cannon
    APC + on the wheels
Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax D156 on the Paint, glass, and wheels
    Hyper Dressing on the tires

    Interior:

Basic Wipe down. No dressing applied.
    Vacuum
    Inside Glass D120

From this description of your process...

Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax D156 on the Paint, glass, and wheels
    Hyper Dressing on the tires

.... this has to be one of the easiest details you've ever done, right?

But that car! Sheesh, it's a time capsule!! Do you know if this is a fairly fresh restoration or has the car been this beautifully preserved over time? We know of someone who inherited an early '80s Mustang with barely 20,000 miles on it and the thing still looks like it just rolled out of the showroom it's so nicely preserved and original. If this Firebird is one of those type of vehicles, the owner has a real gem on his hands. If it's been restored, it sure looks like it was done to a very high level with all the proper materials and likely cost more to do than the car is currently worth. Either way, it's nice to see one of these second gen Firebirds looking so nice and original.

The only thing that has been done to this Formula 400 is a paint job and some transmission work. Other then that it's all original. It was originally a maroon color and the previous owner got the vehicle done the way you see it. It really needs a new paint job. The current owner asked about doing a complete wet sand on the vehicle and I tested the paint depth and I informed him there was now way that can be done. He was planning on getting it repainted back to original color within the year. But other then that it's an awesome car. I like detailing the older classics more then the new Modern cars like Lamborghini, Ferraris, Maserati and so on. The classics are like you said " a time capsule".
