First post in a very long time!! Hope you enjoy it!
What an experience this was! Being a club level motorcycle roadracer since the early 90’s and a huge fan, doing a job for the legend Colin Edwards “The Texas Tornado”(World Superbike Champion and current MotoGP rider), was an opportunity I would not turn down! Because both of our schedules were extremely tight, this was a “crash course” detailing session. With only 2 days to complete 2 cars, this was definitely a work trip! 12-14 hour days of non-stop work, along with an 4 hour drive down there and 4 hours back! And although I wasn’t able to do everything I wanted with the cars, I think they turned out very nicely!
Cars to complete were a Shelby GT500E-Eleanor, and a Mercedes SL55. Both cars needed full exterior paint correction, along with interior detailing, engine detailing, and just some overall love. Myself, Rupes, Meguiar’s and a completely stocked NCD van, ready to do battle!
I won’t bore you with all the in’s and out’s of the process, just a quick rundown of the tools and products used.
Products used:
Rupes Polishers (15 and 21), Griots 3” polisher
Paint surface contaminates were removed with Meguiar’s Aggressive Clay
Paint work products, Meguiar’s M101, M205, and some good old fashioned #16 to top them off(#16 on perfectly polished silver/grey paint is absolutely astounding!).
Pads used, Meguiar’s Microfiber Cutting pads, and Rupes foam polishing(yellow) and finishing(white) pads
Interiors were cleaned and then dressed with Meguiar’s #40(Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner and Conditioner), and Meguiar’s Leather conditioner.
Engines cleaned with Meguiar’s Super Degreaser, and topped off with Meguiar’s Hyper Dressing, diluted for a beautiful satin finish.
Tires and wheel wells were cleaned with Meguiar’s All Purpose Cleaner, Meguiar’s Wheel Brightener(diluted) and dressed with Meguiar’s Hyper Dressing, also diluted for a nice satin finish.
Special thanks to Colin Edwards, his family, and friends! Everyone treated me with the up-most respect, and true southern hospitality! Everyone, and I mean everyone I encountered always had a smile on their face and eager to make me feel right at home. Absolutely humbling experience!
Also a special thanks to Dale Martin Photography! Truly a professional in his field! Dale and his assistant Joel Chan really knocked the ball out of the park with this one! He is now my “go to” guy for future special projects. I can’t thank you two enough for making the drive and showcasing the cars, the environment, and my work! The term “Nailed It!” is all I can think of. A++++ reference from me!
