  • Detailing for SEMA

I got the call to help out Command Detail of Las Vegas who is the official detailer of SEMA. Command Detail was sponsored by Mothers so I had to use those products instead of my favorite Meg's

Also this was "Show Car" detailing so we glazed everything, ew, I'm not a fan of glazing but these vehicles only needed a 4 day shine and the customers were happy with the results so that's all that mattered.
We ended up "Quick Detailing" about 500 cars AND MONSTER TRUCKS! I'm so tired of huge trucks!
Also they would drive all these cars in from all over the country! What a mess these things were in.

    On to the pics
First off I didn't like the uniforms!

I drove in from Orange County so I had to stop in Baker and take a nap at my favorite motel but I was sad to see is was out of business.

    I made it!

    Base Camp

    My shirt!

    The Motley Crew

The products I had to use

The first day we got no cars due to a mix up in the SEMA office, a trend of the show this year.
This was the largest SEMA Show to date so they were scrambling to accommodate everyone
So I drove around the show looking at stuff and searching for my Union buddies, I'm a former Trade Show Installer.

This was going to be the Velocity stage

    4x4 Rat Rod!

There's some of my buddies trying to mount this Ferrari onto a stage

I'm not sure what these were but I want one!

We got a few cars in so here's James giving us some instructions of how to do quick show car details. We literally had 20 mins to detail anything that came in.

Since I was in charge I put Joe to work right away! Revenge time! He's moving so fast it's all a blur

The best part of SEMA is all the greats are here! This is Eddy "Hollywood" Cardenas he's some kind of actor on Sons of Anarchy, but to me he's just a friend and a great guy

I was sent out to the main parking lot to wash some Tractor Trailers and I spotted, how can you miss it, one of the Meg's trailers setting up. I cried a little because I was banned from making contact with Meg's during the show.

    On to washing Sta-Bils rig

    Car Crazy stage going up

On to Magnaflows rig. These guys are from my neighborhood so hopefully I'll be doing this rig again!

    off to another monster truck

    wash the mini too

    Now on to the trailer

My girlfriends new 5 freeway commuter car!
Now you don't wash something like this with a power washer, Waterless Wash was perfect for this

When dealing with specialty cars you can't attack them with water you have to "Wash them with Precision". That's perfect for WW

On to the Bat Bike. I think this is what Batman gives Robin when he's mad at him

    Thankfully it's jet powered!

    Back to bossing Joe around

I wonder what these guys are selling?

Borla Exhaust had a great looking Stingray. Just about the only thing you can do to a new Stingray is the exhaust

I'd better sell them a detail it needs a bit of love

    I love the Stingray emblem

They make an exhaust tip polish? I need to try some of this stuff.

Yea! A hot rod and not a monster truck

Back to the Monster Truck Land

Fresh off the trail from Texas

I love all the spikes on these trucks! Luckily I only got stabbed once

    All glazed up

    Much better

    More trucks!

I'm going to put a lift on my van just so I can put 5 Train horns in it!

As we were facing the other way detailing up those trucks they put 500 cars and trucks in the lot

Later on some guys from Japan wanted us to try their new compounds and polishers

The next day started with a trailer

That's better, off to the next job

Indoors to clean up a Jeep, Raptor and push Joe around

    Back at base camp

On to a deep scratch in some thick Clear Coat and polishing a blower

    All gone

    That's better

As I was working on that Green Rod Mike Phillips scared me when he asked if I had any tape.

Just love this guy! He was my first instructor and is just a wonderful person!

Late into the evening booth work was on the menu

One of the best things about working the last day was driving around SEMA with no one in the hall but me!
The Stig was in a booth. He stood there for 5 days straight!

    Now that's a trophy!

    SCOOP!
I got to see this before you did!

As we we're driving around the show at 2 am we came across some hoodlums

After a 20 hours of polishing I deserve this!

The day of the show I was ready to leave but I had to walk the show and see some people

and I had to check out the $275 car

    I don't get it?

I got a free hat but I had to buy the shirt

As I left Vegas the I had to drive by Lady Liberty and the NY skyline

4 hours later I could see the Pacific Ocean and I was happy I was home. But I can't wait to do it all next year as I was invited back!

Awesome Pictures man! Just a quick question, how did the professional line of the The Other "M" brand polishes and compounds perform? SEMA looks awesome, I hope I get to go sometime in my life!
