I was contacted by a fellow member a few months ago about getting his Black Honda Civic all cleaned up and ready to go. He brought the car to me and I began my work. On my test spot I found the paint to be very hard for a honda and ended up going with my trusty Rupes and the Megs MF cutting pad with a mix of M100 and D300. I then polished the paint with HD Polish and a Bns Polishing pad. I sealed the paint with Blackfire Wet Diamond.

On the hood after claying it was discovered that the hood was suffering from crows feet or clear coat failure so I applied the same method on the hood as I did for the rest of the car and it worked out well

Here are some before shots of the paint and the condition:

I think 09 and it will be a metallic paint not sure of the exact name.

Love the 4th "after" photo. Reflection looks like a painting.

              Nicely done!

Nice job! I always found black Honda's to be kind of soft, this is why you need to always to a test spot.

Thanks! When I was doing my test spot and I had no correction at all with a polish and a polishing pad I was surprised and I went all the way up to the MF cutting pad.

It's a little known fact that Claude Monet achieved the "texture" in his paintings that he did due not to any brush technique but rather to the use of a substrate with a lot of orange peel.

Well said. Honda Civics usually do have very soft paint, but "usually" is certainly not "always" so you can't just go by what people say on detailing forums. They're talking about the specific cars they've worked on, not the specific car in front of you. Big difference.

The owner was concenred about the paint being very soft from all that you see on detailing forums. I went ahead and did my test spot and had nothing with a polish and a polishing pad and ended up working my way up to the Megs MF cutting disc and a combo of M100 and D300. SO the key here is do a test spot and let the paint tell you if its hard or soft. While most of us would assume that the paint would have been soft the test spot was able to tell me that this was in fact not true.

Thanks Michael! You've single handedly turned my "3rd and Last Acura" into a "priceless masterpiece" with your powerful words alone.

I think I have similar paint, only the 2013 Crystal Black Pearl (NHP#) version. Worst orange peel I've ever seen/noticed (thus considered my "last Acura"), very DELICATE, but quite HARD to correct.

Took a while for me to learn that there is a difference between a soft paint and scratch sensitive paint.
My 12 Acura with the crystal black pearl will scratch easily but it will need at least UC with polishing pads to correct.
