  • "Little Red Corvette" '56 Vette Detailed BY M

Here we have the Classic American Sports Car. California edition (no hard top included)
This was a daily driver for years until the kids got bigger and on to the Range Rover for that.

My customer used to own a high end body shop so she knows paint.
This was a repaint and detail without the details.
Orange peel in a few spots, sanding marks left on the hood and the white? COMPLETELY scratched up with sanding marks. Why? Because the panels are CONCAVE and hide defects very well by deflecting light away from your eyes.
Geesh! Can one body shop do a good job? I've never seen one yet.

    Waterless Washed
    Clayed
    M105
    DeWalt Rotary
    Wool Pad

    Rupes 21
    Meguiar's MF Finishing Pad
    Meguiar's D301 Finishing Wax

    Lots of marring too

    Buffer trails

    Driver rear marks

Buffer trails on the all over the trunk

No shine and sooooo scratched up

    Orange peal too

    On to the work
Remove these flimsy wiper arms. Your rotary will break these off in a heart beat

Now some of you don't clay "because it doesn't need it". Well I ALWAYS CLAY.
Here's a good reason why. This paint was smooth to the touch.
Well as I clayed I noticed all this black coming off the paint.
What is it? TAR!!! My customers neighborhood is getting re-tared and a light coating of TAR was all over the car.
You couldn't feel it or see it, until I clayed the car.
So Clay, ALWAYS CLAY. You never know whats on the paint.

I thought this was a CC/BC but it turns out it's Single Stage

MF Pad didn't work to well so onto the Wool and Rotary

There we go. Much better results with the Wool and Rotary

    ACTION SHOT!

This little gem has some trunk and no junk

To elevate the trunk past the lic. plate I put a 3 gal bucket under it.

on to the hard a** white paint

3" pad to the rescue. About 3 polishes needed to correct these deep scratches

    M Detailing

When I got to the drivers side I found this. A BURN through! Nice body shop work at it's finest!!!!!!!!
I got the customer to show her. I called it a day after this.

Next day it was onto waxing/polishing

    DONE!

    That's soooooo much better!

Concave doesn't show the shine either!

I love a butt shot! Sexy, Sexy rear end on this beauty!

    I love this cockpit!

My customer said this was a rare version due to the Automatic Tranny and Power Windows

I had to post the engine too

Beautiful job. But.......it looks more like a 1960 Corvette rather than a '56.

      ^^ Check the Lic. Plate, it's a '56.

That is not a 56 Vette. 56/57 had single headlights, that is a 1960 Vette. The plate even says 1960.

BTW, very nice work, it turned out very nice!

I think it's a '60 too. Googed and didn't see the double lights of the fins behind the front wheels.
But the customer said it was a '56 and the plate says both!
I forgot to check and the customer never got back to me when I was writing this post.

It would be interesting if someone ran that plate to see what vehicles it had been on. Perhaps he had a 1956 vette at one time and then transferred the plate to the new car. Whatever it is, you did some really great work on a classic. Cool cars are more fun to work on!
I used to own a 58, looked very similar to that car.

That turned out great! it had little to no shine before. Now it looks like you repainted the car. I love these kind of restorations.

Very nice! Too bad about the body shop burning through on the white. At least you were able to give it some lovin'.

Really nice job! That was one scratched up car! It's hard to believe that anyone would let it get that bad. By the way, I like the system you have to store your chemicals. Very organized! - Wheaton
