    RE: Taping off when using the DAMF System. From a splatter point of view there should be zero unless you switch the tool on before the pad is firmly against the paint. From a protection against damage point of view, it's sort of a personal preference. Odds of doing any real "damage" with the DA are slim to none, especially when compared to running a rotary with foam pads. But you do run the risk of getting compound onto textured plastic, having it dry and ultimately staining that trim. If you want to tape off to prevent that, go for it. But since you can pretty easily get very tight up against trim with these thin microfiber discs, even that is less of a concern. Some people are just better than others at staying away from trim when working with a power tool or by hand. If you feel the need to tape off, then by all means, do so.

    Personally, I rarely tape off things when using the DAMF System, for the reasons stated above. I will tape off trim in a narrow area that I'll be going over with a pad wider than that area, or if that trim is some delicate material, etc.
