  • 1989 Black Celica

I did this car last weekend over 2 days, as i ran out of sunlight on the first night. This car had never been clayed or fort hat matter washed on a regular basis. I think once every 3 months was around the norm.

Wash & dry - Gold class .. its funny how a simple wash makes a world of difference
Meguiars clay with soapy water - this step was incredibly tedious & tiresome
    quick wash and dry
#1 Medium cut cleaner with rotary to remove the horiffic water spots - cut pad
#9 Swirl remover 2.0 with rotary - polish pad
#9 swirl remover 2.0 with PC (curious to see how it worked with this machine) - polish pad
high pressure spray to remove dust particles
    Apply NXT by hand
    remove with PC microfibre bonnet

Alas it was quite dark by the time i left and the owner had been kind enough to send me these photos he took himself.
These photos are one full week after the initial detail - is getting washed next week for the first time.

The sunroof was badly oxidised and in parts through the clear coat (i presume)as i drew black paint on the pad

needless to say after the all was done and compared to the dilapidated conditionof the paint .... the owner was deleriously happy

    The dirty clay bar

The reflection shot off the bonnet of some bicycle wheels hanging off the pergola roof

Although not the best photo but believe me this is 1 million percent better than b4

    The rear disc wears NXT

back at the ranch i thought i'd show you some of the cloths i used before i got round to washing them.
the following are all meguiars except for the yellow PC microfibre.

The green window cloths are the best. Found them by accident in my local autoshop. The black on them is from the inside NOT the outside.

    a very dirty microfibre bonnet

    wow looks great!
    any before shots?

also could i ask, when you applied #9, did you do a section at a time?
also how did you buff it off?
using a PC or by hand?

Very nice work there. Great results too. That clay has seen better days.

Was the black paint picked up by the clay from the car (as in sinlge stage paint) or was it black paint overspray?

Good job there, the pics are beautiful.

u really shouldnt ask that question
i tend to get excited about a car when i see it and dive straight in there to save it from the pain it must be feeling. Taking before pictures can hurt the cars feelings

i almost always apply #9 a section at a time. For the bonnet i would do it in 6 parts split into top and bottom and then into thirds (drivers side, middle, passenger side)
Although the microfibres are great i find that with #9 for instance that the 100% coths are much better because they have a deeper pile and remove it more easily by hand.
I then go over the area with a microfibre, usually to remove any reminensce (sp?) and dust that resides.
I dont remove by PC until the LSP simply because i only have 2 microfibre bonnets.

the black was from when i hit the window surrounds/trim and also did the wiper blades. i did clay the sunroof which was very poor but dont remember the black coming off so readily. When it became obvious that the clay wasn't going to be used on paint again i clayed the windows with it also.
