  • Cleaned and Detailed a 1998 Freightliner Firetruck

The wife and I tackled one our local volunteer Fire Department's firetruck (one of their 5) last Saturday. Basically, $400 + the cost of materials (about $200). I inquired up here about a few things before I started though. They are very pleased with the final product!

    Process:

    1) Treat all diamondplate with some Busch Aluminum Wash (more less an acid)

    2) Polish all diamond plate and polish-able metal with Meguiar's All Metal Polish and a Mother's Powerball.

    3) Pressure Washed the truck

    4) Handwashed the entire truck

    5) Dry

    6) Clean interior top to bottom with Simple Green, various brushes, protectant, etc....

    7) M105 Ultra Cut Compound on a Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5.5" Cyan cutting pad paired with a Meguiar's G110V1 Dual Action Polisher--settig 5-6

    8) M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a 5.5" Lake Country Hydro-Tech Tangerine Polishing Pad paired with a Meguiar's G110V1 Dual Action Polisher--setting 3-4

    9) Collinite 845 Wax on a 5.5" Lake Country Hydro-Tech Crimson Finishing Pad paired with a Meguiar's G110V1 Dual Action Polisher--settig 1-2

They were not looking for $100 swirl removal or anything, just make it shine, which I did! It had water spots all over where they dont dry it, i took care of that!

    10) Meguiar's Tire Shine on the tires

    11) Cleaned Glass

    Inside the bay

This door had bad waterspots all over it before this:

4 hours of polishing diamond plate:

Sara cleaned the entire interior, she done awsome!

The shine that M105, M205, Collinite 845 provides

I still have to go back this week and hit the front bumper with some aluminum wash and polish, ran out of both.

Are you sure that's not a new truck? That's some great work!

Great work ! That was one pretty big of a project.
Not sure if you mentionned it, but how many hours/man did it take ?

I was offered to clean inside/outside a white 2008 Freightliner Century rig when I will be on vacation for from July 21 to August 5. The interior is well, far from being clean ! Not sure yet, but I believe thant I will decline the offer. The pay would be good, but I still have a few cars on the "to do list". I feel that I will run out of time somewhere and I want to take at least 5 days off to relax ! I'll be on vacation after all !

With two of us, it took 9 hours. Had it been complete swirl removal and all, it would have taken a few days. They just wanted it to shine, so i dont that. They got their $400 worth of labor, that's for sure! half of that was me polishing diamond plate while my wife took care of other things like waxing and interior

Nicely done in 9 hours and all that diamond plate!

I'm ashamed it took me a week on a pickup.

That looks amazing! I take about 6 hours on my full-size Buick and it comes out about the same...just before the rain comes...lol

Looks good. $200 worth of labor though, $200 was for product. Any fire calls during the job?
