  • Freshening up my 90 LX

A while back I picked up a 90 LX 5.0 Mustang for a DD. The paint was horrible, which is to be expected of an $800 car, and my plan was to just rattle can it flat black. Well my wife would not have that, so I decided to use it to hone my skills (or lack there of) and play with different combos and techniques. I gave it a once over with some 10 year old pads I found in my garage and it looked better. But this time I'm taking my time and really trying things out. The car has been repainted at some point in its life, found a few spots where the paint is flaking, luckily it was repainted the factory color. Yesterday I decided to try out some wet sanding starting with 3M 600 moving to 1000, 1500 then finishing with 2000. Not ideal, but the 105/205 really cleans it up. I used the 105 with a megs red cutting pad on a PC, also not ideal, I had to make a few passes to get where I wanted. Then moved to the 205 on the polishing pad then again with a finishing pad. I was very happy with the results and topped it with UW by hand. I would estimate I have about 3-4 hours in the hatch, bumper and rear quarter so far. Im going to tackle the hood today and attempt to remove the orange peel from the paint. Not sure if this color came with a clear coat from the factory, but the respray was not clear coated, and I think that makes the results that much better.

before and after side by side. The right side had been sanded, left was taken after first pass with 105.

One of my favorite shots so far, nice clear reflections.

With the light the metallic really pops well, good reflection too I think.

And the glory shot, Megs products standing tall.

Ill get some sunlight pics if the sun comes out this afternoon.
