  • Quickly Done Maxima

The weather was just right and I had short time available for the family car. Cleaned and waxed the Maxima.
The car had been out on a gravel country road, so started with a touch less bay wash to be remove undercarriage dust.

    Looks sharp David.

How are you liking the Rubbermaid Degreaser? I think I saw that at Menards.

Nick, thank you. Yes, I had a previous job I needed a degreaser and picked up this Rubbermaid product at Menards. Not overly strong, but as soon as I sprayed it on these tires the the dirt started running off. Bothered me a bit that it dried quickly. I sprayed all four wheels, mixed a bucket of Deep Crystal and the first tire was drying. However, didn't seem to leave a residue and washed off just fine.

Thanks Davey. As an aside, I bought an inexpensive tripod mount for my iPhone. http://www.amazon.com/iStabilizer-Mo...6994662&sr=8-1

Combined with an iPhone application call "Night Camera" taking low level pictures is easier. I have a mini tripod and the iStabilizer holds the iPhone securely and Night Camera has a self timer function. Set the tripod, frame the picture, hit the shutter button and walk out of the reflection. At least the camera is steady and the blood isn't rushing to my head!!!

          It came out great, David.

You improve your photography skills with new equipment as well. All positive.

Okay, we checked the weather. It said light rain, but the humidity was going to be so low the rain would evaporate before it hit the ground. However the clouds opened up and flooded everywhere. The end result, rain drops that evaporated and each droplet was filled with yellow pollen.

I drove down to the shop and washed the car using Super Soap from a Gilmour Foam Gun. Rinsed the entire car and foamed and washed then rinse, foamed again and final drizzle rinsed. Dried with a Absorber and leaf blower. Thne started using Ultimate Quik Wax and a Water Magnet to finish drying expecting the car to look great again. However looking at the photo below, you can see where the mechanic had touched the hood while changing the oil and also if you look above the flourescent light fixture reflection you can see the etched ringlets from the pollen laced water drops.

In the photo below, you can see the ringlets above and below the reflection. The ringlets were all over the horizontal surfaces of the car.

I grabbed a bottle of ColorX, knowing in the past I've had good luck removing water spots. ColorX did not work. I grabbed a bottle of CarPro Eraser to remove the ColorX and then I opened up a bottle of Ultimate Compound and tried a few passes of UC. No luck with UC. So I drove off to the store to get a big jug of vinegar.

Last week I purchased a couple spray bottles at WalMart thinking I might use them some day. Today was that day. I sprayed the vinegar onto the finish and let it dwell for awhile. Then I grabbed a foam applicator and started using circular motions over the hood. I did that twice.

Then I got out the clay and clay lubricant and went over the hood. Still not happy with the results I got out the D300 correction compound and a microfiber correction pad and went over the hood with speed 5 and moderate arm pressure.

The final step was to open up a bottle of D301 finishing wax and finish off the hood.

Below the hood is completed. The ceiling in the shop has yellow spray-applied insulating foam on it and it reflects poorly in photographs.

Slightly different exposure and the hood looks much better after all work completed.

Products used on the removal of water etch. Perhaps not used in the right order, but reasonably successful anyway.

            Suggestions always welcome.

Wow, they sure were some stubborn water stains. Good work removing them!
