  • 2008 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, and 2008 Shelby GT-C S/C

I've been detailing for over 5 years now with my own business which I started in High School. I started in a body shop which I still do work in on occasion. A friend had two Shelby's which he wanted work done. I'll start with the Super Snake. It is the 725 hp model. I happen to be a huge Mustang enthusiast so this was a dream come true. However I was not impressed with the build quality of the Super Snake. Mechanically the car was tip top. However certain cosmetics of the car I found to be very cheesy. The two brake cooling ducts in the front lower grill looked like a pipe was roughly cut on an angle and then a wire screen was cut to fit and painted black. I feel a little more effort could have gone into making this look a little more professional, considering the price tag and the name 'Shelby' on the car. The one thing that grinds my gears though was that the stripes were vinyl. Being a body guy, I do not care for vinyl stripes at all. They leave a hard line and provide a different shine than something that has been painted on. We repainted the white, followed by the blue stripes, and then a clear, which is the proper way to do a car of this expense, rather than just painting blue over the existing factory paint job and then re-clearing, because this would too leave a hard edge. It required a few re-shoots as white and blue are on opposite ends of the color spectrum. The colors tended to bleed through to each other. When it was all said and done the painter left it up to me to wet-sand and buff the entire car. Of course I chose my favorite Meguiar's products, M105, M205, followed with a coat of M26. I ended up detailing the rest of the car hitting the interior with M40 and Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner. I'm sorry I left this process vague, it has been a year and I cannot exactly remember.
As for his other car, the 2008 Shelby GT-C S/C, which stands for Shelby GT-California Supercharged. It is very rare as there were only 215 Shelby GT-C's made in 2008 and only a handful were Supercharged. This had the Whipple 550 kit installed by Tasca Ford in Rhode Island. He has since done lots of work to it and it is now pushing 580hp at the rear wheels. This car was just a simple detail, M205, #7, and M26.
The Super Snake took first place at a Carroll Shelby car show last year, right after I finished the car. The GT-C S/C took 4th because there were marks from the factory on the strut towers and they took points off for that . The Super Snake has since been sold and he only has the GT-C S/C now. I'm trying to talk him into painting the stripes on that one next . Anyways onto whatever pictures I could find to share...

This was a before shot. Can't find the ones with the hood down but you can see there wasn't a lot of shine on the stripes.

Stripes removed. That is the KR hood in case you were wondering. Looks MEAN!

We painted that on the Strut Tower Brace

This one was edited on my iPhone, made the blue pop a little more. These were long nights I was in no mood to try and adjust lighting to make it look good.

    Like I said...long nights

Under the hood of the Shelby GT-C S/C

edited to get that Ford Windstar in the background to stand out a little more

HDR filter added for a little WOW.

Sorry if the photos are huge

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
