  • Black Navigator Cleaned up

Recently I had this Black Lincoln Navigator in for a refreshening. Under the light there was nothing but swirls all over and very uniformed. In some areas I noticed pigtails and paint thickness was all over the board. Some areas were too thin to remove too much paint and because this is a daily driver I suggested we don't go for a flawless finish but something to improve it's looks. This paint was a bit sensitive, easily marring and at times difficult to correct to a nice finish. Customer was very happy and didn't expect the finish to come out so nice. There was difinitely room for improvement but under the circumstances I didn't feel there was a need to without possibly causing damage. Here is my process.

    Exterior
    Citrus wash
APC on tires and wheel wells & trim
    Tires received HD
    D300 / D151 / HD Uno / #105 / D301
Removing stick on emblems and cleaning adhesive with goo be gone and overspray with a graffiti remover.

    Total Time: 16 hrs

    Interior
    APC+
    Various brushes
    Quick Interior Detailer

I usually make videos for my customers to see so since it's already made I'll post it here. Thanks for viewing.

Thanks Nick. That paint was a pain. Thanks Mark, yeah I've been using that for a few years now. My other DA's I use them for certain jobs as well.

Thanks Mike, Yeah stick on hood scoops, stick on corvette emblem and a couple of other things. When the customer came by to pick up his vehicle I told him politely how nice it now looks without them and to try not to put anything else on this vehicle. I think he understands now, I hope.

What was the pad and chemical used on the mats? Please tell us the other special uses.

                      Re: Black Navigator Cleaned up

That was a good job! I really am dumbfounded at why someone would put a Corvette emblem on a Ford Product, a large SUV at that.

Anyhoo, how much do you guys usually charge for a job liek that? The reason why I ask is that I am getting requests form friends and family after they have seen the work I have done on my own and my in-laws' vehicles. The way I figure, I can either make some money or I can tell them I charge and they won't want me to do it for them. Either way, I win, sorta...

Thanks DetailBoss! The carpet was pretty bad and a strange odor in the interior cab was not a bonus.

I used APC+ 4:1 on the carpets and as you can see I use the Porter Cable 7424 with a brush attachment. I have a G110 with the Meguiar's 3" backing plate for spot polishing and my G110v2 for the body polishing. It makes it easier and quicker to switch between the G110 and the G110v2 when working on different parts of the vehicle. This way I don't have to switch out the backing plate each time. Hope that answers your question.

Did you do anything to eliminate the odor? (ozone or any other sort of process) or did the odor come out through the cleaning process?

The odor came out with the cleaning (shampoo and extraction) process. It was mostly in the carpet. There must have been something spilled that the owner wasn't sure of.
