  • 2011 Chevy Tahoe - Armor All Removal

This client let his sister borrow one of his trucks only to bring it back in worse shape. I guess she thought she was doing him a favor by having a local express car wash & detail shop apply a silicone based dressing to the entire interior.

The entire interior was covered in it, vents, gauges, matte plastic pieces. Really amazes me what passes for detailing these days. Whether this job was worth $75 depends on who you ask i guess?

The client was a bit upset and called me out to fix the issue & winter prep the vehicle. The interior alone took one whole day as removing the dressing was like cleaning a soiled interior, everything had to be brushed, wiped slowly, agitated, rinsed, etc.

I'll explain more after I show you what we were dealing with:

As soon as I sprayed APC on the surface an oily residue began to run & drip down.

I decided to get the bulk of it off with soap & water followed by a mild degreaser, rinsing, brushing, & eventually hitting some areas several times.

    Process:

    Vacumm.
    Hot water & 1oz of Hyper-Wash in a 5 gallon bucket & terry cloths.
    3D Orange Degreaser 10:1.
    Hot water wipedown.
Glass cleaned with Glass Cleaner Concentrate 10:1.
    Jambs washed with ONR.

Some areas were hit 3-4 times. The next day some AA was still coming out of the vents & seams.

    After:

    Exterior:

    Wash.
    Clay.
    Waxed/sealed with D301 Finishing Wax.
    Tires dressed with #40 - Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner.
    Wells dressed with Hyper-Dressing 3:1.
    Opti-Seal on roof & wheels.

    After:

Wow Nick that was some nasty stuff on the dash, I think if you was to drive it on a sunny day the sun reflecting of the dash would blind you to death! The final results look great. The way an interior should look.

    Great job again!

Holy cow!! That interior looked nasty! The color of the interior plastic changed big time. I would have loved to see the brown drip as you hit it with APC. I hate the oily and shiny substance gas station details use on plastic surfaces. I guess the majority of the public likes that look.

Great job as always Nick!! The Tahoe's looking much better.

        Thanks Scott & Marc.

For anyone wondering, this low quality job came from a Fullers car wash location. There are 11 locations in the Chicagoland area.

The majority of the public as we all know is uneducated, nobody knows what a good detail is.

WOW...there was enuf AA in there to go from a "B"to a "DD"!

Guess the, "If a little is good, more is better" thinking was the word(s) of the day when this was done.

                Good save Nick!

                  What the ..... !!!!!

That was one of the ugliest interiors which I've seen. I couldn't live with it even for 2 minutes.

                  Fantastic save, Nick.

I've actually seen people use tire shine on their interior panels. I have no idea how they could stand the smell of it while driving.

Those dashboards look so nice with a natural based dressing on them. I can't believe people put an oil based dressing that shines like the sun on the interior of their cars.
