Hey guys. I got tired of looking at swirls on my truck everytime the sun came out. The paint had great reflections, it's just the cobwebbing and what not was driving me crazy. I got bored one night and Googled Meguiars Forums. That's when the learning experience began. I learned that there was so much more to detailing than just washing and waxing and claying. I discovered the paint correction step and polishing. Two critical steps that I needed in order to achieve that perfect finish. After purchasing a GG6 and some Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish, I went to work (after saying "Well, here goes nothin").

    Steps:
    1. Washed with some ICE Soap, not sure of the exact name, haha.
    2. Clayed
    3. Ultimate Compound
    4. Ultimate Polish
    5. 2 Coats of NXT 2.0

This was a real learning experience for me. I had some rough times with the D/A when I was new to using it. It was taking forever to get a result anywhere close to what I wanted. For those of you that may remember, I posted on here asking for help. After some advice I went back at it again and with time, I was getting much quicker results. I now feel very confident with the D/A.

I do not have any before pictures unfortunately, but it was just your typical cobwebbed car thats been through the Drive Thru about a million times. I think most of us can picture that.

Overall, is it perfect? No, it is not perfect. It is 95% better though, and I am very satisfied with that. Like I said, it was a great learning experience. I'm ready for the next project, and have my sights set to make the next job as close to perfect as possible!

By the way, in a couple of the photos below when I take a picture on the side the sun is shining , how come the reflection of objects is much less than the shaded side? Just the way it is? Or is it one of the products I used? I already forget what it looks like in the sun in person lol. I may just need a better camera too.. I was lazy and used my HTC Evo for all pictures.

Wow, you did a fantastic job! That red is just glowing and the shine looks wet and deep, just like it should - very nicely done! Don't worry too much about reflection pictures; if the sun is too harsh and lighting the side of the vehicle then it just washes out the image. Lower lighting is almost always best for really dramatic pictures, and even then it can be a bit tricky to get. Just keep doing what you're doing, paying attention along the way to what's happening and how the paint is reacting, and you'll be polishing paint with the best of them in no time!

That's a really nice Avalanche. Looks better than the vast majority of red cars on the road.

That is one SHARP Avalanche! Easily the nicest I've ever seen. You know what would've made it perfect? If it was BLACK! LoL!! I agree with Mr Stoops, keep it up and you'll be knocking them out with the best!

From what I can tell the trim looks good too.

Every one I see from this era around here look terrible & neglected.

Thanks guys I appreciate it! And I do kinda wish it was black as well.... but red is what I am stuck with for now.

Tuck91, yeah I actually tried a new trim protectant that I received in a sample size recently, Adams Super VRT Tire & Trim Protector. My bed panels, as well as the top portion of the sail, get very light grey colored after a while if I don't keep it up. I did a 50/50 with Meguiars Ultimate Protectant (as I have been using that on the trim forever) and the Adams Super VRT. Adams Super VRT actually gave it a noticeably darker appearance than Meguiars did. Also the Adams gave it a little bit more a wet look, but not too wet. Unfortunately I don't have the 50/50 pictures, what trim you see in the pictures above is all covered in Adams.

Not sure why I said all that, but hey it's always good to share right? But I totally agree with you about most Avalanche Trims being neglected. It gets pretty ugly... I couldn't imagine seeing one from down south....
