  • 1994 Vectra RV

35ft RV in need of some care.

The owner had brought in two other detail companies to try and at least make even the slightest dent in the fiberglass on this RV, but they turned up with no improvement.

The RV was made out of some very weird material, It felt like a board made of wall paper with a matte finish to it. Not sure if it was even fibeglass.

I was able to remove the oxidation but it was a long & hard process. It took a couple hours just to get a process dialed in.

I have some shots taken during the polishing phase that should give you a good idea of what I was up against.

    Upon arrival:

    Wash/Prep:

    Pressure wash.
Foam with mix of Dawn & Bass Pro Shop RV Wash.
Lower areas cleaned with Bass Pro Shop fiberglass cleaner.
Washed with Long handled wash brush.
Wheels & tires cleaned with Purple Power 1:1.
    Pressure Wash.

I brought some Boat & Hull acid wash just in case there was algae, heavy grease, etc.

    During:

    Condition after the wash:

Note the metal door vs the rest of the finish in terms of shine/gloss. Different material.

To make matters worse, nothing was working on this RV.

I started with some M44 Color Restorer on a LC green pad, nothing.
Stepped it up from a green LC pad to a MF disc, nothing but messy results.
Went up the line to M67 One Step Compound with a MF disc, getting there but too aggressive.
I then locked in with my favorite M49 Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover with a MF cutting disc, got it.

The total process was #49 - Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover via PCXP & MF cutting disc, speed 4.

This was the only thing that really worked from me, and you needed to polish in small sections the size of a mf towel for it to actually work. Plenty of M49 was needed as the finish was as dry as they come.

Here are some shots during the polishing phase:

The "T" & "U" have been compounded and are getting their color back:

Compounded up to the window so far and above the blue strip , very light reflection:

I had washed the RV & compounded one side of the RV in 8hrs. The business I was working for closes at 5pm. Time to go home for the day as the drive back was over an hour as well.

I did do a test spot on the other side before leaving:

    Making progress the next day:

The back end of the RV was still oxidized:

The pads were getting loaded up with dirt & gunk on the lower trim fast:

Dawn & a bug sponge in a bucket of hot water was our pad cleaner of choice.

On Day 2 I got every single surface compounded then sealed with Flagship Premium Marine Cleaner Wax with a MF finishing disc. This took the entire day.

On Day 3 all I needed to do was minor work & finishing touches.

All glass was cleaned with an aerosol brand glass cleaner the owner wanted me to use with terry cloths. Inside & out. That took a couple hours alone.

Someone else cleaned the interior before me so I just wiped down the drivers area with some Quik Interior Detailer.

    Back to the exterior.

ONR wash to ensure no residue.
Opti-Seal on some areas by hand where the polisher would not go.
Wheels were polished with Hot Rims Mag Aluminum Polish.
Tires dressed with All Season Dressing.
    Tar treated with Tarminator:

    Afters:

Owner was happy with the outcome and has it up for sale now. Nowhere near perfect but there is a difference. I know its hard to tell in the pics.

Nick, I wish you'd called me, I'd come over. Ya know work fascinates me. I can watch it for hour after hour after hour and you obviously put a tremendous amount of time into this one. Great job, well done.

              Thank you very much David.

I am boring to work with, once I get into the zone I am locked in though.

This RV was a challenge but I was able to overcome it.
