  • Hey just did my first detail 08 HONDA FIT

how are you guys doing. I recently did a long overdue detail for my honda fit. Well heres the progress!

So my detailing kit just arrived. Got a G110v2 meguiars DA with 3 w8207 polishing pads. I have a lot of swirl marks on my honda fit and i wanted to get rid of them using this set up by meguiars. Heres a detailed list of what I plan on using and what is going to be done to my car and I must say everything is going very well! Check out my process.

    1) Wash- use of meguiars gold class shampoo and foamaster gun.
    2) Claybar- mothers or blue magic (to remove contaminants etched in the paint)
    3) Polish- meguiars ultimate compound, ultimate polish, or scratch x (using Meguiars G110v2 Dual Action polisher).
    4) Wax- nxt tech wax 2.0 (apply by hand)
    Clean and gloss wheels tires.
    Clean interior and vacuum

heres a picture of the immense amount of swirls my door has

the machine thats going to save my paint!

time to clay bar after washing!

gotta protect the weatherstripping and crevices so that compound doesnt get stuck inside

Use the Meguiars g110v2 with W8207 pad

After using Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish

    Tada!

I picked up some burgundy pads from meguiars (7207) and I have not seen a single review about them. Are they bad to use? I recently did it on my hood and fender the only problem I had was it giving off a lot of dust. It still worked great followed by a polish because it marred a lot. But I think it got dusty because it was just Hot that day. Anybody else try them and have any opinions?

    update:

heres my hood 50/50 shot (burgundy pad w/ ultimate compound)

anybody have an idea of taking all these massive rock chips out =(

    ready for wax

    finish

really open to advices. i was hoping my front bumper would have looked better. i guess its better not having swirls on it

oh yea i did mothers back to black on my trim and with proper amount of prep it went pretty well!

let me know what you guys think!

I think you did an amazing job in detailing your black fit! That's the way a black car should look like!

Meguiar's never recommended using the cutting (W7207) foam pads with the G110v2 or any other D/A because it can haze up the paint especially to the ones on the softer side. Mike Stoops has been using the polishing (W8207) foam pads with Ultimate Compound with great success in removing severe defects in his Saturday classes.

The last picture you posted is unfortunately clear coat failure. Honda nighthawk black pearl pains are notorious for getting these micro-cracks. My friend has a '01 civic that has that exact same problem all over his front end.

Nice job,I would say in the last picture...that is damaged left on your clear coat following after some bird poop sat on painted surface too long!

        THat's better..

Don't use burgundy/cutting pads mate.. That's making a holograms in your car and thats what is your problem now..

But looks so much better than before..

Last pics looks like a bird bomb or paint failure? Can't see it clearly though.

        Have a nice detailing.. Cheers

You did a wonderful job! Especially for your first time. UC and UP are SOOO user friendly and do such a great job that I often end up using them on clients' cars unless I really need to get aggressive. I am going to say that I think (not 100% sure though) that the spot in your last pic is in fact a bird poop etching. You could try to go over it with your DA and UC with a bit more pressure. I don't know if I would wet sand it unless you've had some experience doing so or you could make it worse. If the clear coat has in fact failed it may be better to just touch it up with some clear and let it go seeing as it's a daily driver For your front bumper, you could try a product called Dr. Colorchip as I have heard it works pretty well but for the future, on your next car you may want to consider paint protection film. I have it on the front of my vehicle and LOVE it. I can't tell you how many times it's saved my paint. In fact, on the ride up to my parent's this weekend I had a decent sized rock hit the film on my hood. There is a slight scuff in the film if you look at it very very closely but no dent and no chipped paint!

BTW, who's Supra is that? It's sweet!
