As we were making progress we pulled some team members off SAM970 and started them on the B-29 "T Square 54" that was housed in a hanger on the other side of the airport. (More about her later)

What we had after hours and hours of aluminum polishing, then paint polishing, reaching over our heads, stretching to perfect every last inch of her.............was SHINE! She had been restored to her fomer glory!!

Work continued on SAM970 daily. We worked hard and were tired but at the same time exhilarated to be working on her!

As we started to make head way on the aluminum we started moving detailers to the painted areas. The polish of choice for "Air Force One"?? Meguiars #205! For protection we sprayed a light coat of D156 over the surfaces. Body solvent made and clean up of aluminum splatter quick and easy.

We polished aluminum for over three days!!! We used a two (and in some areas up to four) step process to perfect the shine on the bare aluminum panels.

Our first order of business was to mask off the painted area adjoining the bare aluminum. Polishing aluminum is dirty work. Masking the paint off will keep in clean from aluminum polish splatter.

Once all the masking was done we polished aluminum and polished aluminum and polished aluminum...............

The condition of the craft when we first found it was anything than presidential.

The Seattle weather had taken it's toll on the bare aluminum and painted surfaces.

A handpicked team of 40 auto and aircraft detailers traveled to Seattle the week of July 25 – August 1, 2011 to restore two historic paragons in U.S. aviation history. The first presidential jet plane (Air Force One) known as SAM (Special Air Missions) 970 was a flying Oval Office for four U.S. Presidents including Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. The Boeing 707-120 also entertained many international VIPs such as Nikita Khrushchev and Henry Kissinger. The team will also refurbish a rare WWII B29 Bomber known as T-Square 54, both of which are on exhibit in Seattle’s Museum of Flight.
