  • 1st DA detail - Audi A3

Hi all.. This is a copy of a thread I posted on our local Meg's forum.

Finally got to try out my new G22Ov2 weekend. And the weather held out too today! Its great living in Durban (Google it - a beautiful city).

Friend of mine is trading her car in soon and the car was in a bit of a state. 6 or so years old with 100000km. I volunteered to detail it for her and give my new found DA skills some practice.

So the process was as follows :

Spray down with high pressure cleaner
APC to the wheels and agitated with wheel brush. APC to the wheel wells too and left to dwell a bit and then sprayed off. The wheels actually needed to come off but I didn't have to time.
Foam gun used over the car (Ultimate Wash and Wax) and left to stand then washed with chenille pad.
Clayed car with clay and Quick Detailer. (Destroyed the last of my bar! - See pic)
    Rewashed car with Ultimate W&W.
Dried with waffle towel and inspected the paint - cobwebbing and swirls galore with what looked like rotary trails on the roof.
Pulled the car into the garage, taped her up and started with a test patch - used a Yellow pad with speed 3-4 with Swirl X. Huge improvement but needed further correction. Then moved up to Ultimate Compound also speed 3-4 and this did the trick. Rest of the car then done with UC at varying speeds. The roof took quite a while.
I was running out of time by this point so instead of a polish I went straight to LSP - I used GC wax applied with a Black Pad (almost out of my NXT 2.0) and left that to set up.

Interior was vacuumed, leather treated with GC leather cleaner and dash treated with Dash Foam. Glass cleaner to all the glass.

Tires dressed with Endurance Gel. Did the trim with Trim Detailer which I must say I didn't enjoy putting on.

Here are some of the pics!

    Before..

    Then foamed

Paint defects, including a pic of the tailgate which looked as though it had been sanded in a respray and not finished off..

    Clay

Comparison between left - Swirl X and right - uncorrected paint. Looking better but still some defect.

    Finished product

I must say I was happy with the final result - not 100% perfect (the roof was quite difficult to do) but most of the major defects removed. I loved using the G220. Made a 12 hour job into a 6 hour one. Bring on the next car!

Great job! It looks like extreme makeover. I haven't seen so dirty clay yet - what size of surface did you do with that piece? I love the photo of the hood with palm tree reflection!

          Thanks for the compliments guys.

That piece of clay was used for the roof only. Crazy!

I think you did a great job. That car deserves a detail like that.

Great job ! You increased the resale value of this car by a lot !
Now, are you sure she will still want to trade it ?

Very nice work on the A3.

The below surface defects are gone and the car looks stunning.
