  • 1991 Saleen Mustang (Red) - Ultimate Series Detail

Wash, clay, Ultimate Compound, Polish, & Wax. PC buffer and LC CCS pads.

Paint is several years old. Decent condition, but had no "pop"...

The hood ended up SO SLICK that the bottles just slid when placed there. Had to move them to the cowl panel..

(yes, I have ceiling fans in the garage)

(...and bicycles stored in the garage too) Note that the ceiling fan is running, that's why it's a little blurry...

For comparison, here's a couple "before shots" from last fall. As you can see, it was kinda "lifeless", even in direct sun.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

I've used #80, #83, good old #7, and #21 (or NXT wax) before... But after using UQD, I had to try the rest of the Ultimate line. VERY impressed - will be using & recommending it from now on.

    Looks very nice!

Next time I would recommend placing a microfiber towel on the hood before placing products on it, less likely to slide or make small scratches after polishing.
    Fergy-

You're only as good as your last detail

Maybe I am missing something. I see the product on the flat cowel with is a matte finish and does not really scratch at all. Owned a few fox bodies in the day and there is no issue.

Also will say is if the bottom of the container is clean and you place it on a surface without moving it and lift off the same, there should be virtually no damage, especially if there is now a good wax layer. I have done it myself and its fine. It's a good habit but again to each their own.

You did miss something. As quoted, he was placing the bottles on the painted hood.

Virtually no damage is damage, plain and simple. Why risk it if its not necessary? There are much better places to set your detailing supplies than on your paint.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It was just confusing, because if you glanced at the pics before reading the text, they're not on the hood, they're on the black plastic wiper cowl behind it.

It does look slick though- like when the darn cat hopped up my Explorer, and slid off the front of the hood onto her azz. Sweet justice.

Well there it is, in that case I would agree, you have to be careful in what you decide. Though you take a purist approach it and I get it but again everyone has to be comfortable with what they do.

In the end what we try to do is reduce risk and with that mitigation of the risk we do our best to avoid inducing imperfections. If you take the risk then you must be able to handle the consequences and be prepared to fix it.
