  • E320, Acura TL

    2003 Mercedes Benz E320.

The finish on this car was destroyed from their kids washing it with bath towels on Sundays for the past eight years.

Dozens of scratches, rock chips, major cobwebbing and the clear bra was failing all lend to a poor looking vehicle in terms of appearance.

I had done this car over a year and a half ago and it looked okay for what they were willing to pay.

This time their budget allowed 6-7 hrs of work which was completed over the course of 3 days as I am fairly busy.

Check out how the finish looks after the wash/clay with no light of any kind.

The paint was weird as the D300 left a horrible haze but was cutting the defects, some areas of the car were harder than others. D301 refined everything so the one step turned into a two step.

The whole car came out okay but nowhere near perfect or even great.

Here is just after D300 on the rear of the car.

From the start the car was dirty to begin with.

I soaked the wheels/tires with Wheel Brightener & FS Purple Power.

    Then pressure washed them.

The whole car was foamed & washed with Super Soap

    Interior.

    Before:

    Vac/dry brush/vac.
Leather/vinyl cleaned with All Purpose Cleaner & hot water.
carpets shampooed with 3D carpet shampoo.
Leather/vinyl dressed with Quik Interior Detailer.
Painted trim waxed with HD Poxy.
Glass cleaned with Glass Cleaner Concentrate 10:1.
    Jambs cleaned with ONR.

    During:

    After:

The engine was just coated in brown dirt.

I did a pressure wash rinse and a soapy water agitation, then dressed with Hyper-Dressing at 2:1.

    Back to the paint/exterior.

Like I said, the car looked and felt terrible and I had only about 3-4 hrs left at this point of the detail.

I clayed the paint with Meguiars mild blue clay and ONR.
Compounded with D300 Correction Compound via PCXP & 5.5" disc.
Polished/sealed with D301 Finishing Wax via PCXP & 5.5" finishing disc
    Tires/wells dressed with Hyper-Dressing 2:1.
All metal trim polished with All Metal Polish.
Wheels sealed with Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax.

There was minor dusting after the D300 step and I did not want to take any chances so I pressure washed the car off.

    After:

I did not get a chance to do the final touch ups and last details until around 10 at night so pics are not the greatest.

Car is not perfect but looks better than 70-80% of black cars on the road that are this old today.

    After:

    =============================================

    2005 Acura TL.

    Just a basic wash/seal.

    Washed with Super Soap.
    Clay while washing.
    Sealed with HD Poxy.
    Tires/wells dressed with Hyper-Dressing 1:1.
    Interior vac/wipedown.

Very nice. The Benz looks really good. Pretty cool how 8 years of neglect can be taken care of in 7 hours, huh?

Weird or not, you got it looking pretty good!

Any thoughts on the variations in the areas?

          Thanks guys.

          Dave,

I am thinking some areas were a repaint.

I am also thinking some of the scratches were stuck under the clear?

The client was in love with the car all over again despite some of its existing damage.

I thought it turned out okay but I could have spent twice as much time with it.

Fantastic! How do you like the 3D carpet soap as say APC+? Are you just using a stiff brissled brush to scrub/agitate? Or an attachment on like a DA?

Nice work, but I have a question on the Mercedes. I have avoided pressure washing because I thought it was a source of swirls, etc. Have I been wrong?

nice work mate, i really love the combo of APC and QID leaves a fabric finish

                      i have a question...

When you say that you use apc and hot water, I understand that you spray apc on to the surface agitate with a microfibre and then you wipe off the excess with a damp mf with hot water?

can you explain this to me please

I like the 3D capret shampoo and I am using it with a brush by hand.

If you use it too closely then yes it will push the dirt against the paint.

If you use it properly with a little distance it is gentle yet effective.

I actually agitate with a terry cloth then follow up with a another terry cloth soaked in hot water then dry.
