  • Trashed Acura RL, RX-7

    2000 Acura RL.

Has nearly 150k miles & was in very bad shape.

The interior & even trunk smelled like vomit.

The client did not like my price a year ago & still did not like it to this day either but he called me again after servicing a neigbor's car and still really wanted it done for a "good price". Very cheap.

Normally for something this old/dirty I am obviously more expensive versus a newer late model sedan in decent shape.

We talked and his price limit bought him 4-5 hours of work. To really bring greater results would take 6-8 hrs and cost in the $200 - $300 range.

I stuck to my price either way and made sure I got what I wanted per hr.

    Before:

I should have never pulled the rear seats but I did, this was after vacumming. People need to control their animals (children) when eating in the car.

I did not get after shots of this section as I felt like I was going to be sick the entire time doing it. Smelled like something had died and a combination of the old food made for a headache the rest of the day.

Turned out nice though, after a whole can of Goof Off.

    Interior:

    Vacumm/dry brush/ vacumm.
All surfaces cleaned with All Purpose Cleaner 4:1 plus hot water.
Some areas spot treated with Purple Power FS.
Deep lines in leather cleaned with Goof Off, as well as under all seats.
Carpets/mats shampooed with 3D Carpet Shampoo.
    floormats pressure washed.
Jambs cleaned with Purple Power & ONR.

    After:

    Exterior:

Foamed and washed with Super Soap & APC.
Clayed with Meguiars red aggressive clay.
Tar on all undersides treated with Tarminator.
    Polished/wax with #66 - Quick Detailer (Cleaner/Wax) via PCXP.
    Tires/wells dressed with Hyper-Dressing 3:1.
Glass cleaned with Glass Cleaner Concentrate 10:1.

    During the wash:

It started pouring after the foam but before agitation step.

    After:

Nowhere even close to perfect or even great but I did the best I could for what was the job. Ended up being 5hrs exact.

    ==========================================

    1993 Mazda RX-7.

I did a complete detail on the car last August, so this would end up just being a maintenence detail.

We had a forecast of rain four days after so I wanted to get the car back to the owner in about 4.5 hrs.

Its a good thing the car is in excellent shape.

Just a bit dirty with rain & dust before:

Interior was given a wipedown/vac & glass cleaning.

    Exterior:

Foamed/washed with Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner.
Spot clayed a couple panels with Meguiars blue clay.
Touched up a few areas with D300 Correction Compound via PCXP.
    ONR wash to remove dust.
Waxed/sealed with D301 Finishing Wax via PCXP & LC 5.5" white pad.
    Tires/wells dressed with Hyper-Dressing 1:1.
Door/trunk & engine jambs cleaned with ONR.

    After:

    Awesome work as always Nick!

That Acura RL is just nasty. I hate working with people that don't want to pay up the price.

The RX-7 came out nice!! The D301 really made the paint glossy.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I had to go wash up after looking at those Acura pictures. Almost want paid up front with cheapskates. Good job.

The Mazda looked great when you got done.

Congratulations on sticking to your guns on your price. In reality the owner should have paid you more because of the disgusting condition of that car.

I don't know how you got that RL to look that good in 5 hours. Unfortunately for me, I deal with a lot of cars in that condition. That would take me much longer! I guess I need to work faster!

          Great job though, as usual.

Acura looks really good sir. There is a product called Krud Kutter you can get OTC at lowes or home depot that I would recommend for the nasty dark stains in carpet like that. If you decide to give it a try let me know what ya think.

I noticed the wheel wells on RX-7 were super clean! What type of brush are you using and what are you pre-soaking those areas with?? I can't seem to ever get wells looking like that, great job on them.
            Fergy-

You're only as good as your last detail

                    Thanks Marco.

Probably one of the cheapest people I have ever met.

He is the owner of a local fancy resturant here in a nearby town.

The funny thing is this past Christmas I bought $400 worth of gift certificates from his resturant and gave them to my two best clients.

I didnt complain that he charges up to $80 for a steak. Its pretty good actually, just like my detailing services IMO.

                    Thanks Dave.

I know this Acura may have not been extremely bad but I took a nice long shower afterwards. Some of the gunk and **** from that interior rubbed off on me.

So far nobody has stiffed me yet but I once had to wait three months to collect payment from one of my customers.

My rate on this one was a bargain to say the least.

                    30$hr - 5hrs = $150

You do not need to work faster at all my friend.

Take your time and do it right.

I could have spent much much longer on this car, but not for free.

My 3D Carpet Shampoo can cut some serious grime out of carpeting.

Plus those stains were probably 7-8 years old & set in.

For the right price I would have spent a much longer time with the car.

I typically use a slim handled small brush from Walmart for tighter areas of the wheel wells, its in the home care/cleaning area.

Mostly soap & water with a little APC will get them clean.

The dressing makes them look great.

But there are many better detailers out there than me.

Btw, what do you use to apply Hyper Dressing to tires/wheel wells? Just spray on and that's it? Or you use foam pad? What about the engine plastic parts? Same thing?

                        Thanks.

I have detailed some real junk cars in the past that were ten times worse than this.

Odds are you may end up doing cars like the Acura above again as you have to start somewhere in this business and pay your dues.

No, if you just spray and walk away it will leave runs on the surfaces.

I use a mf applictor pad.

When dressing an engine, I use a terry cloth soaked in Hyperdressing, as well as a dedicated paint brush for tighter areas.
