  • Chrome Lambo Pics

This is a LP640 that I recently did. It is the only crome wrapped LP640 in the US that anyone knows of and most likely the second one in the world (the other is in England with a cheaper wrap on it).

I did paint correction on the wrap, which isn't something that there is an established method for so I was just a wee bit nervous when they told me they had no more wrap to fix any problems I might create and the car was being sent out that day to the owner.

I worked with some test panels until I found the right method and products and was off to the races from there!

I used a combo of 205 and Ultimate Polish switching between a foam polishing pad on a DA to a microfiber DA finishing pad.

I have some shots of the car in the shop where I worked on it and will get those posted up soon but in the mean time hope you enjoy these shots we took just before the car was loaded onto the truck.

the person in the pic is me by the way with company shirt on!

In the first pic the small scratch on the front of the car was actually not a scratch but a small fold in the wrap that happened when the applied it...the shop was planning to send someone to the car later in the month to try and correct it once they received more of the wrap from 3M.

        That is impressive!

Although I don't think I would like to be driving near it on a very sunny day, talk about blinding!

It was hard to look at that car long enough to take pics...polarized sunglasses were worn all around lol.

              Wow, that looks amazing!

So were there any swirls / scratches to correct? How did the wrap respond to polishing? Is it just like polishing paint?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

There were a lot of scratches but not so much swirls. The process of putting the wrap on isn't at all close to prefect since this is rarely done and the wrap isn't really made for cars so it tends to get messed up a bit during application.

I would say it wasn't as much like polishing paint as it was like working with tools made for paint on something with the consistency of paper, meaning it was very delicate.

I had to keep the DA on very low speed as we learned from the test panels that the vinyl heats up very quickly and when it does it streaks permanently.

basically, I used lowed speed passes with a soft pad and tried to avoid staying in one place for more than a split second to be sure to avoid heating up the vinyl.

the scratches however reacted like it was paint to the polish and did start to come out. It took the better part of the day but all in all it came out pretty well.

I was very happy to be able to learn how to work with this material since it is becoming more popular and to be able to let others know that it can be worked with!

                      Awesome!

Can you get us pics of the lambo with the chrome wheels?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                      Remove swirls my friends.

unfortunately the lambo was shipped out of state once the work was done and I was never actually told who owns it...thought if they drive the car anywhere I am sure that some pics will surface here and there.

Great job. I would've been nervous as heck to polish that car out. Good thing you had your test panels.

Wow Scary to think of that driving down the road, I think Smokey Yunick tried to chrome a nascar racer and they threw it out on safety concerns.
Looks like you did an awesome job on it.
