  • 2005 Ford Fairlane - 2 layers of M21

    Hi guys,

I had the pleasure of spending 4 hours with my car this weekend so I managed to do a thorough spruce up.

The car had previously received a full detail a month ago because it was looking tired. It only did light service during that month and was always garaged. I had finished off the previous full detail with M21 Synthetic Sealant, but I regretted not doing the whole double-layer routine. So this was my chance.

The wash was good fun. The paint felt super-slick and the water's behaviour against the M21 finish was very cool. I would say water bahaviour is unique compared to other products.

After the wash I dried and then cleared the surface of remaining tap water contaminants by applying the M135 quick detailer.

I then applied 2 more layers of M21, spaced 20 minutes apart. I'd say I used less than one ounce to do both layers on this massive car, without even trying to use it sparingly. Made me wonder why on earth I bought a 64 ounce jug, when I already have another 32 ounces of Gold Class Liquid Wax.

The end result was stunning to the naked eye, almost surreal. I honestly could not stop staring, my neighbours thought must have thought I was strange.

Here's what the camera managed to capture:

Right after I took it for a nice comfortable cruise about 20 miles to my brother's house. There I found a nice photo opportunity:

What can I say, very happy to have a previously tired looking car looking this neat.

      The car looks good!

What are the specs on the vehicle? There isn't a car in Fords lineup like that in the States.

This car is a long-wheelbase luxury spec car with a 5.4 litre V8. This particular model was released with a sports-tuned suspension and LSD differential. The whole model range was discontinued in 2007 because GM Holden's competing Caprice (see pic in my avatar) convincingly beat it in the sales race.

Would it have been similar to the Lincoln Continental here in the US?

Yeah that's right, same philosophy except this gets rear-wheel drive (good) and the truck based V8 engine (bad, but can be turned good).

sounds like it is a fun ride for a big full size car!

I don't know why the Aussie spec cars don't seem to sell well here in the States.
The Pontiac G8 is a very nice car and is based on a Holden, whats not to like about a 4 door sedan with v8 power and rear drive. The GTO didn't seem to sell well either, that was based on the Monaro I think. Not that Pontiac exists anymore...

Great job on the paint. That car has some clean lines to it. I'm liking it.

That's not your father's Ford Fairlaine--at least in the United States.

They are great cars for easy cruising and the occassional hard drive, but Americans have a lot to choose from and everything is so cheap. These cars survive in Australia because offshore offerings are triple the price over here.

Haha no! I was going to point one of these Fairlanes out on the street to a friend and say hey thats like my car, but then I lowered my finger because two 80 year old guys were driving/riding in it. What can I say, they had good taste and I like lots of space in my car.

Btw, here's some more pics from the day:
