Nice work Jesse. I have seen many a trashed interior, but I have to say that one takes it all! You did a fantastic job turning it all around. Great save!

If you get a good Steam machine you can do quite a bit. It aids in not having to use too harsh of a chemical, you can use it to clean leather seats and many use the steamer in place of a carpet extractor. When doing that it helps the carpets and mats to dry very quick. The higher model steamers have more pressure which can help in cleaning engines and wheels as well. The model I have is nowhere near a good machine. So I use it to clean crevices and hard to remove stains. In the case of cleaning up the cup holders it helped loosen everything up because it was really stuck together. Once all that was loose I simply vacuumed it and gave it another steam pass. Good steam machines can run from about $800 on up.

I am honestly surprised though that someone that keeps a vehicle in that condition would pay to have someone professionally clean it. Glad to see you brought it back from the depth of dirty car hell.
Lol, yeah I think it probably reached the point that even they said it's time to have it cleaned. The interior took me 6hours and 45 minutes. I hope they can maintain it from here on out. If not they can call me. I just hope it doesn't get as bad as it was.

I agree, this has to be the worst I've done. The back had what appeared to be sand but the owner said he had a bag of cement rip on him. Trying to vacuum the grains of sand was a pain. There were crumbs and all sorts of goodies in crevices so I had to be sure to look everywhere. When I started off by vacuuming the cup holders is when I realised there was mold. The little hair or fibers of the white mold rising up when I ran the vacuum over it. It was gross. There was a stuck gum partially in its wrapper that was also stuck with black spots on it. ugh yeah it was gross. It was good to hear from the owner that his wife (who is the driver of the Explorer) didn't want to drive the car because it was so clean. I'll take that as a compliment.

Thanks Stephensdetail! I used the Little Green Machine from Bissell. It's a poormans extractor but does decent. I may be buying an actual extractor this week since my next job is their travel van. I sprayed APC+ let it sit for a couple minutes and extracted with the LGM and clean water.

Excellent job man! I to am interested in your steam cleaning process.

That's about as bad as it gets. I love the ones that requires gloves. Especially the sweet moldy mildew smell from the floor mats and cup holders!

              Wow, great work Jesse!!!!

What did you use on the exterior lower plastic body panels?

I hope to see you at one of the Thursday night gatherings and talk more about that steamer.

Thanks Bob! Sounds good! I used PB Trim Restorer on the lower plastic body panels.

                    OMG!! that was revolting.

It amazes me that people can drive something like that without a hazmat suit on.

I have always worked in peoples houses and in some of the worst I have had to tell the customers that we won't work in the house due to health and safety (parts, or all the house look like the centre console!!!!!) and the response is "why whats wrong?"

People just get desensitised to their surroundings that it becomes normal.

Great work by the way. That's one before/after to put on the website although it might attract similar business!!

Thanks Mark. It was kind of funny because the lady came out and was standing behind me when I was cleaning the center console. I didn't hear her because I had my ear plugs on but when I turned and saw her I think we startled each other. I startled her because I had the mask on with my latex gloves. The look on her face was priceless. I then told her uh, you know you have mold growing out of your cup holders? That's why I have the mask on. She was kind of speechless. So I'm not sure if she knew or not.

I've had a couple people ask me after seeing the clip if I can clean their interior and before I can answer they've said oh but it's not that bad. Hmmmm. I'll have to see it for myself.

That was fairly incredible, to say the least. What a fantastic turnaround on that mess, Jesse. Nicely done!
