    Re: DA Microfiber System....Honda Civic

These Civics have been known to have some of the most delicate paint we've encountered lately so we're curious as to how much marring you got from the D300/cutting disc on this paint? Obviously they aren't all going to be the same, but we've seen so many of these where UC on a foam polishing pad is overly aggressive. Just curious as to your experience with this particular car.

Great work all around though, Nick - that red looks gorgeous now!

Mike, I used the 5" MF cutting pad on a G110v2, and DA Compound on this car. I've found that using less product or using more product per section, will determine how much haze or marring you get. With this car, I used DA Compound, after priming the pad, I used one pea sized drop at a time, and worked it until it was completely gone and about 90%clear. Sometimes I got a 1'x1' section, sometimes it only lasted about half of that.

These Honda's do have extremely sensitive paint, but using less product per working section seems to have a determining factor on how it finishes out. I used nothing but DA Compound on this car, then straight to wax. I did use the Finishing Wax on this car, but did not work it in any way, shape or form. I just spread it like I would any other wax.

Hope I'm making sense today. Have a killer headache this morning, and "focus' isn't something I'm successful with today

Exactly the question I had in mind. We have a Civic detail coming up soon and I had the notion that D300 may be too much for it.

EDIT: Guess I was typing while you were answering. Thanks.

Great response, Nick, it made perfect sense even with your pounding head!

With paint as sensitive as some Honda paint can be, we would suspect the D300 to leave a fair amount of haze, but this same paint also seems to respond really, really well to a fairly light touch. In that regard, we would then suspect it to love the D301 on a finishing disc as a final clean up.

                Wow...looks amazing.

Did you forget to detail the wiper cowl, or was it just too faded?

                  Nice Work Nick!

Is that HD on the engine? It looks nice!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                  I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                  Remove swirls my friends.

No sir, it was cracked, and the owner was replacing it. He was supposed to bring the new piece with him when he picked up the car, so we could replace it before we got the last set of pictures. But he forgot it, and since he lived a few hours away, I wasn't going to ask him to turn around and go get it(although I did think about it lol!). He brought the car to me from South Texas, which was about a 8 hour drive for him, one way. Disappointing, but oh well.

Just an old Canon XSi with an 18-200mm lens. Nothing special really. Actually thinking about upgrading here pretty soon. The new model is out now, and I'm considering getting it, especially since it does video
