  • 2008 Acura MDX

    2008 Acura MDX, 41k miles.

Client wanted a one step & sealant, plus an interior done.

The truck was foamed with a mixture of Shampoo Plus and Super Soap.

The wheels, tires, and wells were cleaned/degreased with Wheel Brightener, All Purpose Cleaner, & Super Degreaser.

The egine bay was washed and dressed but no good pictures of it.

The interior carpet was given a dry brush and vac.

All hard surfaces and leather was cleaned with All Purpose Cleaner via cotton towels and small brushes. Areas of the carpet were also spot treated.

Glass was cleaned with Glass Cleaner Concentrate at 10:1 and several terry towels.

All vents and crevices were brushed out.

All hard surfaces, clear plastic, & leather recieved a Quik Interior Detailer wipedown.

The door & trunk jambs were wiped out with Last Touch Spray Detailer.

The paint was one stepped with #205 - Ultra Finishing Polish via LC 5.5" LC white pads on my PC. The paint was very gray and I was able to get 75% correction or so. Not too bad for a one step.

Paint and wheels were sealed with #20 - Polymer Sealant.

    Tires/wells dressed with #40 - Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner.

The exhaust pipes were treated with steel wool and Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

    Well done, Nick.

    MDX looks good.
Nice combination - 5.5" pads and M205 with its rich polishing oils.

Looks great, M205 sure is a great product.

Nick - Great job! As an MDX owner myself, your work has inspired me...

Just curious, based on your vast experience detailing, how you would rate the paint on this car? Since you were able to get about 75% correction with just M205, I would guess you found it somewhat "soft" compared to other paints...? I'm trying to decide if I want to get M66 or D151 for my next AIO for my cars.

Also, how long did this detail take you?

        Thanks.

            Thank you John.

The paint was definitly workable and the goal of the detail was to make the paint black and not leave it looking gray.

I figured whatever swirls/marring that I took out with the light oxidation was a little bonus.

The paint did have some moderate cobwebbing before and I was able to work it down to just light marring.

In the end I would say the finish turned out great for what the client was paying for. It also probably looks better than 80% of black vehicles on the road.

You may want to go ahead and do test spots with either M205, D151, or M66 on your MDX and pick which one you like the best.

I managed to get a few more random pictures as well that I forgot about:

Nick - thanks. I have 205 and love it, but was really just trying to get an idea on how aggressive an AIO to try.

You're right, though. It's probably worth it just to get a 12 oz. sampler of each and do the small test spots as you suggest. I've used ColorX in the past as my AIO and generally like it a lot, but there are times where it just doesn't seem to be aggressive enough, even on my "soft" Acura paint.

              Again, thanks.

Sounds to me like you would really like M66 Quick Detailer a lot since its virtually the same as ColorX except 66 is more aggressive.

I generally use either a green 5.5" LC pad or the Meguiars W8207 yellow pad on my PC or G110, when using M66.

I know a lot of folks here love D151, but I simply love M66 more.

Give the M66 a try, I think you are going to like it.

Nick - thank you for the advice. I was kind'a leaning toward the 66, but your recommendation has solidified it for me.

                  Again, thanks.
