  • BLack GT-R the worst paint ever

even if u pay me double i will not do another one!
i know the infiniti paint is soft but easy to finish nice.
this paint on nissan gt-r is a pain! a big one....so soft and weird.

i did one step only SIP on meguiar`s polish pad and Flex DA , but with long run and slow movement ... took me forever plus when i try to use any final polish on a test spot i mess up the finish left behind by SIP ?!...i FAIL.
took me 2 hours and 3-5 combinations to fix the test spot where i try the 2nd step ( finish step)
i try : 205 , 3m ultrafina , prc , finish pad , polish pad , 3m blue pad , g110 , flex da lower speed , hi-speed , NOTHING! SIP was only thing that work at least to get it close to better finish.
anyway the car is better than before but still need some work.

    CONDITION BEFORE: TRASH

    AFTER SIP:

    FEW before after:

the 3 deep scratches before /after ...gone

    OUTSIDE shots:

Fantastic results. That's how black should look.

Re: BLack GT-R the worse paint ever

It is our understanding that at introduction in late 2007 this new GT-R was painted with Nissan's "self healing" paint system. We've read several reports of this paint being extremely finicky and quite frustrating to work on. There is now some information suggesting that Nissan has since pulled back from this "self healing" paint and newer GT-Rs are now painted with a more traditional paint system.

Cosmin, do you know the model year of this car? That might help confirm or refute the above information.

It was my understanding that GT-R's with self healing paint are only protected in certain areas on the car. There is like a film on the paint and is more visible once the paint is neglected and dries out. You'd see it more on the rear bumper on the car, which leads me to believe this car doesn't have self-healing paint.

Somewhere on MOL there is a thread about detailing one of these with the self-healing paint, I'll try to find it and post a link. EDIT: Here is the link from Todd - http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-det...tches-etc.html

Regardless, FANTASTIC work on the GT-R. As others have said, that is how black should look.

Wow, seems to have a good bit of orange peel on some of the panels. Seems to be the norm anymore.

Still, great looking job on the finish on a beautiful vehicle

WOW!! What a sexy car! Up here in Colleyville, TX (being right next door to Southlake, TX, one of the richest cities in DFW), I've seen quite a few of these GT-R's sneaking around up here! One of em is red and has over 900 hp already! Good job on this one!

Wow - very nice black indeed!
And there sure is quite a bit of orange peel. Maybe it's been re-painted? I know a lot of Porsches here come out of the factory with orange peel, so maybe it's factory-installed!
Either way, that is a hot car.
