  • Eh Previw, Eh (the first McLaren road car)

"What's cooler than a McLaren F1 homer?" Mr.X's voice was faint and cool.

"Nothing," I managed, my once quick wit froze by the ice of Mr.X's breath.

"That's a big negative. How about McLaren's first road car...." Mr. X smiled, revealing teeth that more resembled jagged icicles rather than the enamel covered bones that most humans used to help consume fuel.

"Ummm the F1 is McLaren's first road car," I replied, focusing on the yellow eyes instead. Mr.X chuckled with out moving his mouth.

"The McLaren F1 is McLaren's second road car. This is the grand daddy, the grand pa, the grand father, the grand freaking piano," he said, his mouth remaining still. Sensing my look of fear and the puddle forming under my right pant leg he continued," Bruce McLaren was going to build road cars. This was the first, built in 1969, and was his personal car until his death shortly thereafter."

I nodded in agreement, my eyes still focused on his eyes, his icicle teeth pursed behind his lips.

"... It is the only one in the world homer, the only one ever built... Do NOT mess it up."

      Very Nice!!

What a rarity and to be able to provide your art on a vehicle like that. Extremely good choice Mr X, you chose the right man for the job!

Looks absolutely stunning. I'd say showroom new, but it was never in a showroom. Oh well.

This is just a preview of a recent, out of the country, detailing trip I got back from.

The write up itself will take about a month and cover a diverse group of cars; from a custom built, one off, 1939 Bentley (designed by the factory to steal away a particular Bugatti client) to an original paint LP400 Lamborghini Miura
          .

                  A couple more.. Sorry

The full write-up will probably not be done until sometime after SEMA; PAC has me extremely busy for the next 2 weeks (after just returning from being gone for two weeks).

Here are a couple more pictures from the preview.

                  Original paint Lamborghini Miura.

It is going to be a long month. Then we get to drool over the awesome machines you had the pleasure of detailing.

Todd, I hope you don't mind but I've corrected the spelling of Bruce's last name, and the company name, for you throughout your post. It's McLaren, not McClaren. As a huge fan of historic sports car and grand prix racing I just couldn't let it go, so I hope you understand.

This particular car was, essentially, a development road going version of McLaren's hugely successful CanAm racers of the late 60's (McLaren cars won the CanAm Championship every year from 1967-71). There's a great write up about this particular car at http://www.mathewscollection.com/mcl...Laren_M6GT.htm

And the fact that you got to work on this car just sort of blows me away. Color me jealous!

If I'm not mistaken, the Manta kit car was based loosely on this car. They were very popular in the late 70's and 80's.

What a fabulous looking collection.... I've seen the inside of that building somewhere before. I just can't place where, or who it was.
