  • Detailed: Black Volvo S40

Here's a brand new Volvo S40 (which incidentally shares the same chassis with the Ford Focus ). The dealership gave the new car a complimentary polish & wax job and a phletora of swirls, scratches and hologram burns. The owner then sent the car in for a complete showcar detail. Job completed 12 hours later. Enjoy!

    Excellent job.

I bought a 2003 MB about 3 weeks ago and experienced the same thing, light hologram burns and swirl marks gladly installed by the kids in the detail shop. I promptly removed them myself.

How long did the exterior take you to finish?

      Hi atclew,

The hologram burns were quite bad. Exterior portion of the detail took about 8 hours.

                Hi Lochi,

Unfortunately, no. By the time I usually complete a detail it's already in the evening or night.

Very perceptive indeed! The owner carried out his own spoiler installation with a technician.

What were your aplication methods, did you use mainly rotary or PC, by hand?

                      Looks excellent

                          Hi autonova,

Thx for the thumbs up! I noticed that you have a professional detail setup as well, in which case you'd probably already know that for serious paintwork correction only a rotary would be able to effectively remove the surface imperfections. During the S40's detail, I used a Makita rotary for compounding and polishing, with a Dewalt orbital for glazing, sealant and wax application.
I'd then use an orbital for the most part of the vehicle's maintenance programme.

Very nice website by the way!

                            Hi zey,

The S40's a really great car isn't it? Tight handling and very avant-garde interiors! You should give the stock I.C.E. a run too

                              Macdude,

Nice job on o the volvo. But, may i ask why you decided to use No.85, the most aggresive compound available? Why didn't you try to remove the defects with No.83 first, before turning to No.85 if all failed.

That would be inline with Meguiar's philosophy of using the least abbrasive product to remove the defect. I noticed that in your previous post i.e. honda accord, you also started with the No.85.

Personally, i feel that detailers are taking the easy way out by using No.85(most aggesive product) to remove defects, without trying other options first. It is much more discipline to start with the least aggresive, and not the opposite. I believe it takes more skill to remove defects with less aggresive products than the opposite.

That way, you will remove minimal paint/clear coat and only what's necessary. Taking off too much paint/clear coat will only reduce the longethe car'svity of paint in the long term.

May i know how customers are charged in Malaysia. Are the fees different if you were to use No.85 then No.83 or if you used only No.83?
