  • Detailed: BMW E90 Alphine White

Had a great opportunity to meet with an awesome client. Recently bought the E90 but wanted to remove the swirls and more protection on the vehicle especially on the paint so send it to me to do some exterior work.

Did not managed to take huge number of pictures as pressed for time and also focused more on doing paint correction.

    Some snippets on delivery day:

    Graffiti on the roof

Swirls on the driver side front fender - funny as it was just detailed by another shop.

    Engine bay: Before

General Cleanup on the engine bay via waterless method. Vinyl/rubber were treated with Meguiars M40. Paint surface received light polish (remove minor stains) and Meguiars Body Solvent to remove grease stains.

    Here are the afters:

Much better than before once its all grease/dirt/gunk free.

    Interior Before

Interior received a thorough vacuum (leather seams, nooks & crannies, etc).
Leather, vinyl and pedals cleaned with light dilution of APC+.
Finished down with Meguiars Quik Interior Detailer.
Interior glass was cleaned with Meguairs Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

    Sorry dont have any afters.

Anyhow, shots during the exterior work.

    B pillar a bit oxidized.

After M205. Much darker hue of Black without the oxidized look.

    Rear bumper

    Driver fender

    Driver door

    Driver Door After Paint Correction

Rear Quarter (driver side) after correction

    Test spot on hood

5050 shot - combo managed to remove light swirls.

    Rear Quarter passenger side

    Hood Reflection after correction

Some remote stains on the front hood. Minimized after correction.

Driver door top panel before correction

After single pass of combo. A bit better but still not satisfactory.

    Roof Before

    Roof After

Rear Passenger Door - Driver side after correction

    Lights Before Correction:

    Lights After Correction:

After a single pass. Took out majority of the swirls.

    Much better then before

Front headlights' oxidization is now gone. Clearer optics.

Wheels were a bit grubby looking. General cleanup was done on all four corners.

Sonax Full Effect Working its thing.

Finished doing the LSP at around 2.30am to 3.40am.

A simple summary on what has been done to the exterior part.

Foamed with APC+ and washed with NXT.
Wheels were cleaned with Sonax Full Effect
    Tires on SuperDegreaser
    Wheel Wells on APC+
Clayed with Meguiars Blue Clay+ONR on clay dilution.
    IPA wipedown
    Various test spots were made.
M105+Cut Pad on the G220 showed best results.
Followed by M205+Polishing Pad via G220. All on Kevin Brown Method.
This paint was a bit hard than the normal locally made cars here.
Paint reading was scary. Some very thin spots (<80microns) on various parts of the car therefore only minimal correction was done on those parts.
Windscreen received similar treatment on paint.

LSP - whole car (windscreen, paint, lights, wheels) were Glass Coated to ensure maximum protection and resist/reduce occurrence of more scratches.
Tires were dressed with Meguiars M40
    Wells on HyperDressing
Chrome Tail Pipes on NXT AMP

After 2 days working on the exterior - here are the after shots. Enjoy!

Wheels after correction and sealed with glass coating.

    Roof

    Glossy indeed.

    Thanks for viewing.

Very nice cleanup on the E90! I need to get a few after pictures of my wifes new jet black E91 together and get them up.

WOW!!! Amazing job on the detail Tim!!! I really like the effort you put into documenting every step of the detail!!! Capturing swirls on a white paint job is very difficult but you made it happen. Your hard work also shows in the after pictures because the white paint just looks wet!

      Cheers!

          Nice cleanup!
Where did you get the lowest readings in microns?
I went through the clear on a 2007 below the right side door mirror.

Very nice.... I think I might have to get a metal halide lamp also. Seems to be easier to see the paint defects with.

Thank you nirmaljusdoit. Head lights just required general cleanup therefore DA+4" Polishing Pad and/or Finishing Pad +Sealed by Glass Coating. Most important, it looks much better then before.

The car is indeed swirl free and since paint is thin and its a daily driven car, RIDS still remains.
