  • 1972 Cutlass Supreme

After confiding in you all here I was able to confirm that the paint was not SS, fortunately.

Took about 12 hours to detail and I was more than pleased with the results.

Washed it with a citrus/dawn mix, only the hood and trunk beaded up, everything else sheeted off prior to washing it. Later found out that the owner had waxed the hood and trunk lid for the heck of it. So after washing it I followed it up with a clay bar. The vehicle was rather "clean" as the clay bar came back with rather minuscule results considering I haven't a clue when the vehicle was last properly cleaned. The hood came back with most of the junk, but the rest of the car was reasonable.

The first round I did I used Ultimate Compound with an orange pad (7424xp PC) and did not acquire the results I wanted after half the vehicle. So I went back with M105 and an orange pad once again, rather than using my 4 inch pads I used my 6 inch, made things easier but I still got burnt out 75% through the car

There was no denying a change in the vehicles paint as I worked on it and it was quite rewarding. I didn't aim for a 100% or even a 95%+ correction given the vehicles age and while it was cared for, I thought I cared for my '01 Grand Prix GT by just washing it

Here are some of the before pics from the last thread and after follow:

    Before

I had difficulty acquiring an appropriate angle to get the 50/50 of the hood, but you can see a difference in clarity

Trunk lid, again 50/50 was hard to acquire, no wax again.

Right front fender before it was corrected, not very vivid and relatively dull (as already noted)

Right front fender corrected with just M105, no wax. Clearly more vivid and apt to take a vivid reflection.

50/50 of the left rear fender, left obviously not corrected. Nice eggshell white there

    After(s)
Aside from 50/50 I don't have close-ups, the sun is out today so I will contribute to my post with some close-up afters.

After the detail, first show out:

Yea, that's a "Z" tee-shirt, but the only white shirt I have to wear

Overall I'm satisfied, the paint isn't as reflective as I'd like, but in comparision to what it was... I'm happy.

    Thanks for readin'.

Nicely done, Kendra! Yes, the improvement in clarity is very obvious - we like to point out that "before" correction you can see the reflection of a tree, but "after" correction you can count the leaves on that tree. Looks like you accomplished that.

Congrats on the trophy too - that's awesome!
