  • first time using the g110v2

and its actually a lot easier to use than i thought.

all thats been done here was wash with dawn, bug and tar, wash again, clay, m105 and m205 with the w8206 pad for both. the black finishing pad didn't have enough 'cut' for me with m205, or i still need to learn how to properly use m105 all the way first. reguardless, here are the results from this afternoon. sorry, this is a cell phone pic

it got a coat of m07 after this, and now a coat of m20 is curing as well.

    i love my g110v2!

The black finishing pad isn't designed to cut, it's typically used to apply polishes and waxes. That being said it can be used with mild products like M205 to achieve and absolutely flawless finish. However, the only thing doing the cutting is the M205, not the pad.

If you are new to the DA you may want to look at using Ultimate Compound prior to using M105. UC is much easier to use as a beginner and it can be used to remove some fairly bad swirls.

Many people jump up to M105 because it is the most aggressive compound that Meguiar's offers. Personally I wouldn't even consider using it, without trying UC first.

Your paint looks real good. Keep up the good work.

i read online to use the finishing pad. i guess i learned the hard way. thanks for the confirmation of what i figured out with a little bit of trying things out.

i have used a 7424 in the past (2006). so its been quite some time. ive been mostly been held over with a cheapo orbital and a 'wool' pad to get any kind of cut at all. UC works great when i was using it with that. i have yet to try it with the g110 though.

this is something i did look up before placing my order with ads last week. then again i did use UC before, and it had quite a bit of cut, but not enough to remove everything.

With a great attitude like that you certainly will. Lot's to learn here on the forum and it sounds like you have already learned quite a bit by getting your hands dirty.

Re: first time using the g110v2

When it comes to the final polishing step using M205 to refine the finish we would recommend using the W9207 Soft Buff 2.0 finishing pad. But it's that word "recommend" that is really important whenever discussing product choices of any kind. What that really means, especially in the context of a forum where we aren't able to see and touch the car in person, is that this is usually the most effective process. Said another way, the vast majority of users obtain the results they want using this product (or process) so it's a good starting point.

Paint systems can vary widely and they don't always react identically to a given input. You can use a process and product mix with incredible success on 9 cars in a row but the 10th car won't like it, or won't give maximum results. Still, after doing 9 in a row with excellent results, the logical starting point is going to be the same. This assumes, of course, that all 10 cars had similar defects to deal with - typical cobweb swirls, light holograms, etc.

It's these variables that make paint polishing challenging, fun and rewarding. It keeps us on our toes and thinking as we go. Which, apparently, is exactly what you did - and that's awesome coming from a first time D/A user!

Oh, by the way, we do appreciate you Tweeting this yesterday as well!!
