  • 1964 Studebaker Hawk Gran Turismo - Infinite Detailed!

Mike and I had the opportunity to correct the paint on this all-original Studebaker.

It was painted 6 years ago and has been a show car ever since. It has the typical show car swirls and deep rids from dusting at car shows.

    Some of the defects:

    Hologramming and swirls

    More swirls

    Some rids and dull paint

    More swirls

The color was very good at hiding the swirls, the pictures show only about 50% of the actual swirling.

Claying pulled off some black overspray from the hood:

We tested 4 combinations of machine/pad/product:

We found that the rotary/Cut N Shine wool pad/M105 would be needed on the horizontal surfaces, and the vertical surfaces would get the Flex/purple foamed wool/M105.

We also polished the stailness steel trim with the PC/4" yellow/M105

After compounding and a fresh wash, we final polished with D151 on the G110/LC Green 5.5" pad.

    And now for the afters:

We polished the chrome with 105 and 151 as well:

    Thanks for looking

The Studebaker looks fantastic guys. The chrome came out exceptionally well too. Nice work.

I still note the "background" in the pictures (pine trees etc). Looks like you're still in the "cool country" and I so admire you for that. It has been utterly miserable down in the valley.

          Great work guys.

Thanks Don - We suffer through the valley during the week, then head up the mountain to polish paint on weekends - we just can't do the heat anymore

Thanks everybody, this car was a pleasure to work on compared to the last couple in regards to compound curves and hand work. The cool weather of the mountains sure add to the pleasure, not to mention the working time of the products are insane compared to down in the valley.

                Simply amazing and flawless work!!

If that Studebaker doesn't win a trophy at it's next show then I don't know what would!
