My first attempt at detailing, my first car also. Some one hit me in a parking lot and left me a nice one

I took it in for an estimate, came back with a $400.00 Quote. I did a little Research and bought what I needed accept I forgot to buy some swirl x. But I tried Scratch x with verly little result, so I used Ultimate compound

Note the Hazy area is just the refection of the wall area. You can slightly notice the scratch but looks much better. As I said its my first attempt at detailing, Should of really been sanded but I was nervous as it was.
Any suggestions? Maybe another application? I plain to polish the car with a little less aggressive formula and seal it all in with Gold class pate wax, Any suggestions on a good swirl removing polish? I did not want to use Ultimate Compound on my whole car as the paint is not highly neglected some some light swirl marks, and it should be waxed.
    Thanks

Looks good, I take it you used ultimate by hand?

You certainly did a good job removing the scratches. Were you able to feel them with your fingernail prior to removal? They looked fairly deep.

I would be concerned that you may have removed too much clear coat?

I'd want to give that area extra special attention. Keep it well waxed.

Does anyone know if there is a DIY way to add some clear coat ie spray can to offer more UV protection to that area?

For now its a temp fix for me, I cannot afford the 400.00 fix, and yes i did do it by hand. I am not sure how much clear coat was removed it looks the same as the rest of the car, The Hazy area is just the sun shining on the wall beside my car. A few scratches did catch on my nail, most likely the ones that where not fully covered. I did by a buffer but then I realized 10" was a little to big and I was worried I would burn my paint. There was. approx 24 scratches in the same area. I agree though a paint sealant of some sort would be perfect for the area any suggestions? Also still looking for a good polish/swirl remover for the rest of my car.

I would use NXT Tech Wax 2.0 to seal the paint. 2 coats. If you could only feel the scratches with you nail in a couple of areas then it's likely nothing to worry about. Particularly since you live in Canada.

I can't see any swirls in your pics, so suggesting a product is difficult. The image above shows some products in order of aggressiveness (most aggressive on the left, least aggressive on the right).

In Canadian retail stores ie. Canadian Tire/Walmart you'll likely only find Ultimate Compound, ScrachX2.0, perhaps SwirlX.

You might want to consider getting a G110v2 Dual Action Polisher.

Oh I did'nt take any pictures of the swirl marks, they are just light ones from using a car wash just after the winter. I bought my car in the winter and I had not purchased any car wash products at the time. I was worried if I did'nt wash it quick the salt from winter roads would eat in the paint. I used a touch less wash that had no brushes, more like a power wash but i think that pushed the dirt around and left some. I just thought Ultimate compound would be to aggressive to use on my whole car. I confused Ultimate compound for a polish/swirl remover when i first purchased it and I got re reading the directions and it seems more like a rubbing compound? I would really like to swirl remove the swirls with something less aggressive if the product is a rubbing compound , if some where deep when i use another product i will just go over with UC. Should i put an application of Scratch X over the scratch I tried to fix, or should i leave it till I can take it to the pro's? some scratches are still a little deep just color in them now instead of white.

If you did that by hand, I'm thinking a machine polishing would make that defect all but disappear. Look into hiring a professional detailer to do a spot buff on that defect. A little wetsanding followed by a final polishing would probably remove that paint defect.

You don't have to fully eliminate the scratches in the isolated area. They will do no harm if kept clean and protected. Right now they are clean. Wax will protect them. Your car (all of our cars) have scratches throughout. All of the swirls you see in your paint are scratches. They are just to a lesser degree.

I personally would not take the car to a professional if you are a DIY type of person. You could invest in a G110v2 Dual Action polisher and take care of the vehicle yourself. You'll end up with much better results and the tools to keep your vehicle looking good.

Using a machine (DA polisher) is much different than working by hand. You can use a less aggressive compound and get amazing results in just a couple hours. The same results would take days of hand work.
