  • 2010 Max - Practice Only

Car needed a little correction, but provided some buffer practice while providing some long lasting protection for a daily driver.

    Products used:

Foam Gun - Lame Substitute for Gilmore
    Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash
Two Buckets with Grit Guard in rinse water
    Absorber - drying chamois
Meguiar's Clay Bar - white bars
Meguiar's Quik Detail - clay lube
Bounce Dryer Sheets - insect body remover
Alcohol - spray wipe down for defect inspection
    Mequiar's NXT Glass Cleaner
Meguiar's Ultimate Compound - minor defect removal
    Mequiar's Mirror Glaze #7 - polish
Mequiar's NXT Tech 2.0 Liquid Wax
    Mequiar's Gold Class Liquid Wax
Mequiar's Black and Yellow 7" SoftBuff Pads
    Lake Country Black 4" Pads
    Mequiar's Microfiber Towels
Various other Microfiber towels, bonnets, gloves
    Mequiar's Cleaner Wax
    Brinkmann Dual Xenon
    Porter Cables 2-7424s

New car was driven from Chicago to the Iowa Quad Cities by dealer and was relatively clean and, at my request, my wife (her car) asked the dealer not to wash the car after purchase. However, she had to take it in and have it serviced for an engine light problem and service dept. washed the car. Result, a few swirls.

    Friday evening:
The foam gun was purchased locally and is actually intended to wash residential windows. Filled it with Gold Class and got some foaming and allowed it to dwell for awhile before hand washing with Gold Class.

I started clay barring while my wife went after the insects with dryer sheets. The dryer sheets worked great. Clay bar stayed relatively clean except after the hood which was only slightly contaminated. Tonight I only dropped 1/2 of a bar. I think Murr or J.A. suggested cardboard under claying area for those folks with dropsy Perhaps next time…

    Saturday morning:
Alcohol wipe down and inspection with Brinkmann to find and identify defects.

Follow up with paint cleaning and defect removal with Ultimate Compound. Took it easy as there weren't too many, nor too severe defects.

Cleaned windows with NXT Glass Cleaner.

Next was PC application and PC removal of #7. Not too hot today, so this wasn't too bad nor time consuming. Had wife work on rims applying Cleaner Wax to be wiped off later and a coat of NXT applied and removed.

Here is the car after clay, Ultimate Compound and Show Car Glaze #7.
    Love those #7 reflections.

    Saturday Evening:
Applied thin coat of NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and allowed it to set for an hour before wiping off. The car color is Crimson Black.

    Sunday morning:
Started applying Gold Class Plus at 6am before the sun is at full glare.
Project complete, rain in the forecast, lock car in garage...

    Thanks for stopping by...

That Maxima looks great! I've yet to see that color locally. What did you use on tires? How did you like the M6 Cleaner Wax on the rims? Did you apply by hand, like literally, or use an applicator of some sort?

Two local dealers all had the color with various options. Third dealer got this one from Chicago. This one includes the monitor package, makes using an iPod/iPhone easier. You need to hear this one start...nice growl compared to the 2005 Max she trade in.

Opps...forgot to mention: Meguiar's Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Coating (aerosol).

Delegated to my wife (I was in charge!!) the rims. Gave her a microfiber glove to apply the Cleaner Wax and microfiber towel to remove and then glove again for the NXT Tech. Not sure how long they will hold up.

Excellent work on the Maxima. Love the way you made the Crimson Black paint pop. This color got some run about 20 years back and was commonly referred to as Black Cherry.....
