  • 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Here is a silver Equinox I did at the beginning of this week. The vehicle had just gotten back from a trip, so the exterior took longer to wash/prep than usual, but looked revitalized afterwards. There were a few scratches/scuffs to take care of, but overall paint was in good shape. The interior had a few random stains on seats and floor mats, the rest wasn't too dirty.

It was scheduled to be hot and humid all day, with a chance of rain. I somehow planned my steps perfectly to avoid rain, and did the washing and interior right after the storm passed through, when it was cooler. Rarely does the weather cooperate so well.

    Wash
    • Generous amounts of Body Solvent used on lower side panels for tar and road grime.
    • Front bumper, grill, headlights, mirror backs, and windshield sprayed with APC Plus 1:10, scrubbed with Bug Sponge.
    • Tires/wheel wells cleaned with APC 1:4 and agitated. I should've taken some in progress pictures (Tuck91 style ), the really dark foam coming off (grime!) was impressive for APC.
    • Wheels cleaned with APC Plus 1:4; wheel brush and toothbrush.
    • Presoak with Hyper-Wash in foam gun, wash with Hyper-Wash and 3 buckets.
    • Plastic trim (mirror housings, door trim, window trim) scrubbed clean with APC Plus 1:10.
    • Windshield wiper blades wiped clean with Isopropyl Alcohol.
    Interior
    • All surfaces vacuumed and steam cleaned, Quik Out used on floor mats, spot treatment of seat stains.
    • Glass cleaned with Glass Cleaner Concentrate 1:10 (multiple cleanings required).
    • Hard surfaces treated with M40.
    • M23 Odor Eliminator sprayed onto carpets and floor mats.
    Paint Correction
    • Hood was only surface that needed to be clayed, used mild clay and Last Touch 1:1.
    • For random scratches and scuffs I used M205 on a 4" polishing pad with G110v2.
    Sealing and Dressing
    • Sealed with M21, 4" finishing pad on D/A.
    • Tires and wheel wells dressed with All-Season Dressing, buffed off excess.
    • Plastic bumpers front and rear treated with Ultimate Protectant, two applications, excess buffed off.
    • Mirror housings and door trim treated with M40.
    BUGS!

    Wheels/tires before:

On to some Interior Before shots:

    Stain on passenger's seat:

Driver's door: armrest wouldn't come clean with just steam, so I used APC Plus 1:10; with steam, grime melted away:

    Floor mats, before and after:

Rear mats after (attempted Plaid pattern somewhat successful on right mat):

    Interior Afters:

    Scratch on rear:

    Scratch on driver's side door:

    Some final After shots:

As you see, the Equinox is back in good shape. Thanks for checking this out, questions/comments are very welcomed.

    The truck looks great.

I bet that steamer is nice to have on hand, doing interiors by hand is a lot of hard work, even more when it is trashed.

Thanks, Nick. The steamer is nice but I'm still learning how to use it properly. Extracting while the grime is still loose from heat/vapor is the newest challenge. It absolutely cannot be beat for getting sticky things off of interiors, like candy or gum that has been exposed to heat. The steamer does an amazing job on glass, with this 6" or 8" long squeegee attachment. I did a vanity mirror with it, and it melted away years of hairspray overspray that Windex and Meg's Glass Cleaner Concentrate couldn't touch. I wish the attachment was smaller or more negotiable, to be used on interior auto glass, but it's hard to catch the runaway grime before it seeps into the seams, and I couldn't sleep at night knowing I let a bunch of muck run into someone's window/windshield frame.
