  • 1st time ever... my rear spoiler w/ M205 & PC

Based on the advice I received in this thread (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=413498), I went to work last night. Total time, including taking pics and scratching my head was ~50 minutes.

My order got screwed up by the vendor, so M105 was not at my disposal, but from the advice I received a Edge 2000 blue polishing pad (light) and M205 should do the trick.

So last night I threw caution to the wind and "practiced" on my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX SE. I won't bore you with all the passes I took (7 in all), but all pictures and video can be found here:

I taped spoiler off, and worked on the right side. You can see the spider webs and ramdon deeper scratches:

I primed the pad like I read on the forums (for each round I primed the pad exactly the same, and eventually all the darker spots filled in on the pad.):

    After 1st Pass w/ M105 spd. 4:

    After 2nd Pass w/ M105 Spd. 4:

    After 3rd Pass w/ M105 spd. 4:

    After 4th Pass w/ M105 spd. 4:

    After 5th Pass w/ M105 spd. 5:

    After 6th Pass w/ M105 spd. 5:

    After 7th Pass w/ M105 spd. 5:

I missed a spot near the tape, but you can see the difference between both sides.

And here is a short video where ~I~ can hear the difference between the polished right side and untouched left side. A little difficult to pick out I suppose. The right side feels very smooth compared to the left:

    Lessons learned:

    - I was way too light on my pressure in the beginning and didn't see any results...then I went to the other extreme and applied way too much such that the pad did not rotate. In the end I added a bit of painters tape to the top of the bad to help me see when the pad was rotating. I cranked the speed on my PC to #5 and applied as much pressure as possible while letting the pad rotate every so slowly. This started to give me results.

There are a few deeper random scratches I need to address, but this was a good learning experience. I can definitely tell the difference. Thank you, to the collective forums for all the tutorials that got me here.

Using M105 or M205? Description says you did not receive M105 but the picture caption says you used M105.

Whoops, my bad. It was M205, my M105 got screwed up in my order and is on the way. Thanks for the catch.

I had exactly the same kind of spider webs on my 2007 Mercedes 2007 CLS550 in Capri Blue. I wasn't satisfied with a couple of test passes of M205. So I went with the regimen listed below and got perfect results. Sorry I don't have pics of before and after, but I was thrilled with the results. It took out all the scratches a gave me a better than new finish. I used new Lake Country 6.5" CCS Smart Pads Pads on a Dual Action Polisher.

        2. M105 on an Orange Pad Speed 5
        2. M205 on a White Pad Speed 5
        3. M205 on a Black Pad Speed 5
        4. NXT Tech Liquid Wax on a Red Pad Speed 3
        5. Gold Class Carnauba Plus Liquid Was on Gold Pad Speed 3

Well tonight the spoiler gets completed and I hit the hood. They are the only areas with visible spider webs:

I appreciate the kind words and support, but that rear spoiler is by no means done, even on the right side where I worked. If I only had more time...grrr! :p
