  • After swirls, got reflections.

Forgive the poor quality photos of the swirls. No real proof I got rid of some of the little devils.

    Material Used:
    Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner
Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Coating(aerosol)
Gold Class Wash Shampoo and Conditioner
Smooth Surface Clay Kit (they'll never wear out for me…I accidentally drop'em and have to pitch'em)
    Quik Detailer
    Isopropyl alcohol
Quik Mist and Wipe Glass Cleaner
    Ultimate Compound
    SwirlX
    #7 Show Car Glaze
    #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax - Liquid
NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 - Liquid
    Absorber chamois
Numerous microfibers including Meguiar's Supreme Shine
    Porter Cable 7424 XP
Various Lake Country pads 4" and 6.5"
Microfiber glove - I use my off hand to balance on car, no more finger prints!!

Working toward my 25 rating of the Stoops 0 to 100 scale.

Photos are poor quality and don't do the swirls, those dirty little swirls, justice.

    Reflections however are quite good.

Did I make it to 25 Mike? I didn't get all the swirls, no bonus points yet!!

    Those darn swirls

Really, they're gone or reduced on the left - bad photo

A couple of holes in clearcoat

After working by hand with Ultimate Compound and the SwirlX, tried using a PC and UC and SX again. Holes were reduced, but not eliminated.

Oh forgot to mention...clayed entire car and only folded over once...not too dirty.

After cleaning wheels at car wash, drove home and wanted to wax rims and use up some of the cleaner wax from the clay bar kit. Here they are dirty.

Here rims are waxed with cleaner wax. May not last, but looks good today.

Now the quiz, which side is the reflection on? Hint: its the right side!

It was raining so went to a car wash Friday afternoon and washed the rims with Hot Rims, then washed wheels with car wash foaming brush. Rinsed car and hand washed with Gold Class and two buckets. Rinsed again and dried and then clayed entire car.

After rain stopped I drove home and wiped car down looking for defects to fix Saturday.

Saturday taped off small area and used PC and used Ultimate Compound twice and followed up with SwirlX to eliminate any possible hazing from UC.

Followed same procedure for the remainder of the car, except the roof. The roof I just SwirlX'ed once and then waxed with NXT Tech.

It was 85 to 90 degrees and the UC and SX dried fast and sometimes needed to be removed with Quik Detailer.

Other than the roof, all other areas of car got the #7 treatment and then #26.

Sunday afternoon I concentrated on the clear bra using a product from detailing.com. Late afternoon when it started to cool off a bit, I applied second coat of #26 after a cure time of 14 hours from Saturday night of the first coat of #26.

    Better photos next time.

Real sharp! I just used Ultimate Compound today, and it gummed up pretty bad due to the heat. I also had to use quick detailer to remove it.

          Thanks for the comments.

I really must work to improve my photography of swirls. They are there like a school of fish in a sea of black.

Need to put a bit more pressure on the pad and make the Ultimate do it's work.

Don't put too much pressure on the UC - I think I did on my last detail and still have water spots after 3 passes. Use about 10 lbs of pressure for the work.
              Your vehicle looks great, though!

The Lexus is looking good, David. You've earned the "25", now build on that!

Experiment a bit with pressure - some paints will respond better to light pressure, others to heavy. And make sure to keep your work confined to a small area and buff that UC until it's just a very thin film on the paint. Slow motions over the paint, too. Take your time.

So far, so good though. Black is a tough color, but you're showing it who's boss!!

NICE. Ive detailed a couple of gloss black cars over the years and they're always interesting to work with. But once they're finished....oh man is it nice. Good work there. The mirror hue that black gives off is simply stunning.

Nice photos! I think I like it. I think the holes are not clearly seen. It is normal for that car. But if you want to remove that holes you should repaint it there.
