  • Detailed: Proton Neo CPS (Handling by Lotus) - Solid White

Did this a few weeks back. Had some free time today to do this writeup.

This is basically a brand new car. Just rolled out of the dealer and the owner send it directly to my place. Less than 200km on the odometer.

    Pictures upon arrival.

    Exterior Before

No comments on the fluffy pink stuff inside the car though.

Some adhesive residue on the side.

Tar spots on the wheels and lower part of the side skirts.

Crack on the front grille. Notified owner to get a replacement from the dealer.

There were tar spots all over the car. Might be from the undercarriage spray (antirust + sound dampening substance) and the over spray went all in the engine bay, windshield, wheels and some part of the body.

    Pictures after wash

    Driver door

    C pillar

Driver door - hologram installed free from manufacturer

Another surprise. Touch up paint on the front fender (driver side). Check with a loupe and electronic scope, it is confirmed to be touch up paint and I could actually see sharpie marks (red color) indicating defect. Might be done at the factory. Another bonus - wrong color code on the touch up paint. Epic fail.

Another one at the rear tail lights.

C pillar on the passenger side

Wax and/or polish residue on the rear hatch.

Residue were found all over the car including the wheel arch plastic seal. Body solvent on cotton bud helped to remove them with ease.

Here is a short amateurish video I took to show the defect on the car.

    Engine Bay Before

Hard to capture the specks of overspray using my old camera. But its there. Easy fix with Body Solvent.

There were dirt, wax/polish residue, undercarriage overspray, grease and etc.

    Engine Wash Process:

Power washed (wet the fenders also if you dont intend to cover them)
APC on foam gun (dwell 2-3mins)
    Rinse
Engine bay scrubbed using APC coupled with various brush & Mitt
    Rinsed
Dry via compressed air + MF
Body solvent to remove tar spots
Steam Cleaner used on stubborn stains
    Plastic protected with HyperDressing 4:1
    Seals on M40
Paint on engine bay treated with D151 topped with OCW

    Pictures After Engine Detail

The plastic intake was painted glossy black (not sure the reason for painting it though) therefore it looks glossy.

Tried my best to clean up all the bits and pieces under the hood.

Bolts on the hood hinge and on the fender looks much better - gunk free.

Under hood pad was cleaned again by wiping with MF and vacuumed.

    On with paint correction then.

    During paint correction shots

    Yummy!

Some kind of stain or burn mark. Could not get it out.

    Clay - front windshield.

    Clay - body

    Side mirror before correction

After Correction - this is the passenger side. Outcome is the same with the driver side.

    After correction

Before : Rear spoiler - side

After : Rear spoiler - side

Deep Scratch - driver door handle. Left to be.

Front bumper treated with M205. Diggin this picture.

Rear lights polished to a better level.

Body solvent used to clean up the tar spots on the exhaust tip. Polished to high gloss with Meguiars All Metal Polish.

ps: Polish residue on the bumper was removed. Sorry this is the only picture working for the exhaust.

Test spot on the hood - always do a test spot even knowing the paint code.

M205 worked greatly in removing the swirls.

Another amateurish video showing the 50/50 shot on the test spot.

    Paint Correction Synopsis

Paint is Alesco - solid white - as per my record, this family of paint is quite easy to tackle with M205.

After discussing with the owner, only light swirls will be removed. Deeper ones would be left uncorrected. Paint was healthy with some exception on certain panels (quite low - 80ish micron considering its a new car). The spoiler showed quite bad OP and I planned to sand it flat but owner was not inclined to see and hear any flat sanding near the car. *LOL*

    Pre Correction Work

    • PW to loosen dirt & grime
    • Foamed via foam cannon loaded with Hyperwash
    • Rinse
    • 2BM wash with Osren Nanowash coupled with Meguiars MF mitt.
    • PW to rinse
    • Dried with Meguairs Water Magnets
    • Wipedown with IPA

    Correction stage

    • Meguiars Blue Clay coupled with ONR as lube
    • Meguiars G220- KBM
    • Meguiars 6.5" pad - polishing and finishing
    • Meguiars 4" pad - polishing and finishing
    • M205 Ultra Finishing Polish (worked like a charm, but did encounter removal issue - must be the temperature)
    • Light source - metal halide work light and LED handheld.
    • D151 on inside door panels, door sills, door hinge area - topped with OPT OCW
    • Rubber seals treated with M40
    • Dozens of Ultimate wipes and Supreme Shines
    • IPA wipedown to check work
    • Glass cleaned with Meguiars Glass Cleaner
    • Exterior windows treated with RainX
    • Paint LSP - Swissvax Crystal Rock

Last shots taken before owner picked up the car. Sun shots.

    Apologize for the overexposed pictures.

Wax smeared a little. Quick fix with spritz of iced cold water.

Tires dressed with Meguiars Endurance and wheels protected with Meguiars M16

Cant edit my post. Just left for few minutes.

Correction: Paint LSP is in fact Collinite Marque D'Elegance. Wrong car. Truly apologize for the error.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Can't believe all those defects on a brand new car.

BTW, what does that big P sticker mean?

Its required by law (here at my country) for all new drivers (just got their license) to display the sign "P" . Need to be up on the front and rear car for a year if I am right. Plus, if you get summoned or got into an accident, then you'll either get your license suspended for x number of years or points deducted from your account, in which upon using up all the points, their license will also end up being suspended.
