  • 1984 Chev Corvette

We don't have too many of these driving around here but they come out of the woodwork for car show season and I reckon they're a great looking car.
This one is pretty immaculate for a 20 year old girl but even though the owners have looked after the paint well there are a few signs of aging so some corrective attention was required.
The steps were pretty typical Final Touch polishing, 105 Rotary, 205 Rotary, 205 Orbit, Paint Sealant Orbit topped with High Tech Wax.
I (and the owner) was pretty happy with the result but not having spent a lot of time polishing Fibreglass cars has me wondering if I could get better results with more experience. The panels seem to take longer to heat up but I guess at the end of the day there is only so much paint to work with especially when some of it is 20 years old.

Unfortunately it was raining so difficult to get good shots, but here we go.

    Before's

During, If ever you meet our Man Tiho here, this is probably the first you'll see of him, head down and polishing.

    Tiho and Grant two up

Bonnet shots under our mercury lamps, these show every little defect which can be incredibly frustrating sometimes.

We struggled to get all the scratches out of the tail where things had rested over the years, but the colour seemed to come back ok.

    Finished

            Good job!

I see in the before picture that the tail was pretty dull in color. What product makes the color come back like that and give it a good solid red like the rest of the car?

            Thanks

Nice job ! I do have one question what's the difference between final touch and quik detailer.

In this case just M105 on a really slow speed setting, The paint on the tail was quite oxidised so once we cleared that away the colour was much better beneath. We were fortunate really because the paint was starting to get quite thin on the edges.
So long as the owner keeps a good coat of sealant/wax on it now I think it will hold it's colour.

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback guys, it's great to be able to show some of the best in the business what we're doing and guage responses.

HaHa - Good Question and to be honest we don't use either product so I don't know. Final Touch is just the name of our Company. http://www.finaltouch.co.nz in case you're interested.
We used to use quick detailer a bit in the past in the past I think, was it a bit like an earlier version of D151?
