  • First paint correction on a black Mercury

    Howdy!!

I originally posted this as a follow up to my G110v2 post, but I think this is a bit better of a spot to get some feedback (first paint correction with the G110v2...)

I spent 5 hours on just the hood and needless to say, I'm absolutely ecstatic!!!

Now keep in mind, the paint is far from perfect, but the car isn't a trailer queen either. We don't know exactly how long ago it was painted and the paint was put through it's paces before we had it. I'm just doing what I can do for my Father to help make it look better, and I couldn't do that without Meguiar's and my G110v2!!!

Some before shots, after ONR & clay bar (light swirls & etchings)

Some RIDS on the front fender from where Dad has worked on it:
(And if anybody has some recommendations for some kind of mat or pad I can buy him to put on the fender when he works on it so it doesn't get scratched again, suggestions are welcome!! He uses a blanket now..)

This is after the first pass of M105 with the 2.0 Polishing pad:

    Second pass with M105:

A bit hazy after two passes with M105, but most defects gone:

And a final pass with M205/2.0 Finishing pad brings out that deeper shine:

What a difference!! (As KC would say...ta da!!!)

Dad's jaw dropped when he saw the car...said the paint never looked so good!

I have the trunk and sides to finish in the coming weeks and I can't WAIT!! After I'm done with the M105/M205, I plan on finishing up with some M07 and topping with NXT 2.0.

I also welcome any constructive criticism and/or feedback (and maybe some rep if you feel I'm worth it!)

It looks like everything is going just fine. The only thing I would be concerned with is the thickness of the paint on the remaining areas. It would be nice to have one of those paint coating thickness gauges to test it.

Hopefully all goes well, you seem to be doing a good job.

Oh it would indeed be nice, I agree, and if I was more than just a hobby detailer I would invest in one for sure!! If only money grew on trees!

I'm not seeing any issues so far and I am watching, but after you brought it up, I will be watching closer now for sure! Thanks!
