  • Toyota Sequoia • Interior Deep Cleaning & Wax

Last weekend we detailed the first of two cars for a friend of mine. This Toyota is her mother's car, and has seen its fair share of use. I let my partner tackle the inside and I did the exterior. Heres what it looked like when we got it:

The inside was pretty trashed: the carpets were dirty, the leather had turned a grime brown color, and the dash and buttons were covered in dust.

(The blue stains I assumed were from jeans or clothing. Didn't get the chance to get them out, my guess to get them out would be a magic eraser.)

We then washed the car with Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner using microfiber wash mitts and a Grit Guard. All the cracks, crevices, and body gaps were scrubbed with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus and the red handled body crevice brush from Auto Detailing Solutions. The tires were sprayed with Bleeche-White and the rims and fender wells were sprayed with Meguiar's All Purpose cleaner Plus and then scrubbed with a separate microfiber wash mitt. Finally, the car was rinsed and then blown-dry with an Echo backpack blower.

The back lift-gate had black specs all over it that resembled overspray. The area was clayed to remove most of the contamination.

Typical scratches under the door handles were later removed with Meguiar's M105 applied with a microfiber towel. A lot of the buildup is actually just dirt or grime.

A minor scuff on the headlight was removed later with Meguiar's PlastX and an orange polishing pad on a PC 7424.

Once we dug into the interior we found the icing the owner had mentioned to us. It seemed as if an "icing bomb" went off in the car. It was later cleaned up with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus

The rest of the interior was cleaned and dressed: all plastic surfaces were scrubbed with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus and then dressed with Meguiar's Natural Shine. The leather seats were cleaned with a diluted OxyClean-Water Mixture and then were dressed with Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather. The floor mats were sprayed with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus and Meguiar's Quik Out where it was necessary. They were then scrubbed with the DA Carpet Brush Attachment from Auto Detailing Solutions and then went through the extraction process with our Bissell Little Green Machine with ProHeat. They were then set out to dry on our homemade floor mat drying rack. The interior carpets received the same treatment where necessary. Finally, all the windows were wiped down with Meguiar's Detailer's Line Glass Cleaner.

The remaining spot in the carpet appears to be gum, she will be brining her car back to us next weekend so we can remove it with our new steam cleaner and some gum remover spray.

The car was masked off, and I set off to waxing and dressing, (and a little polishing). I first tackled the head lights with Meguiar's PlastX and polished a few random scratches with my remaining Menzerna PO83. The car then received a coat of Meguiar's ColorX applied and removed by hand. The exterior plastics were cleaned and dressed with either Meguiar's M40 or Meguiar's Natural Shine. The tires were dressed with Meguiar's Tire Shine and the door jambs and any random wiping was down with Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer.

Scratches under the door handles removed:

The taillights were also polished with Meguiar's PlastX
