This is my grandpas car. Hes now 83 and a little bit too old to maintain his car (although he does drive still) so i've taken over the task for him. This car is now 30 years old with the original paint with the exception of the boot which had a shopping incident so i am told. He paid $15000 for this car in 1976 when it was 2 years old ... and i was surprised to see it has disc brakes on the rear ( not sure about front) power steer and aircon
I spent 2 days of about 8 hours each on the paint 3 months ago. It seemed as though pa was using a wax(paste) on his car but not buffing it out properly. This resulted in an orange tinge to the paint which took alot of hard work to remove. Although i dont have before pics i can tell you what took place. After a wash and chammois dry with meguiars gold class wash i first clayed each panel using a soapy liquid. I filled up quite a few bars with filth. Next i applied 2 lots of swirl remover 2.0 with a rotary followed by some gold class polish by hand - all coats were removed with my blue microfibre towels. Although the results werent perfect there was a HUGE difference in the finishes. I have 3 pads all of which got clogged with dirt and needed special cleaning afterwards. Pa was all teary eyed wondering why his grandson would bother to labour for 2 days to clean an old fools car.
Once a week he catches up socially with his neighbours telling them about his bright clean car. What a great feeling!
Anyway - today was 39 degrees (celcius) so i had a bit of a rush job in the very late evening getting this done so i could get some pictures before the sun set. I just gave the car a thorough wash and dry, followed by some quick detailer which took a while to rub in so i made a third step of slapping some gold class polish on it and this is what it looks like now....

I'll take some pictures over xmas of the engine bay - its really quite a mess... i'm sure you guys can give me some tips on how to tackle it.
