I washed my moms car yesterday and was beating myself up over her wheels. She drives a 08 HHR with factory chrome wheels they are not taken care of and had a build up of about 6 months on them, our schedule doesn't always coincide so I can't stay on top of them for her. I was really tired after this battle with these wheels, the things you do to make people happy.
I brought out my Diablo that I received from Spyral last season to put it to good use, but to my surprise it really didn't do much to the buildup. Could I have used a different brush? Let sit on the wheel for an extended period of time, maybe.
So after the wash was done and I had brought it inside to finish up the drying and small exterior details I kept looking at the rims. I gave her a call and asked if she wanted me to take the time to clean the wheels if my products on hand would clean them up, of course she said yes! Out comes the Meguiars NXT metal polish.
I usually use this product on exhaust tips or chrome grills, but this is the first time using it on wheels. Application was done with a cheap mf towel and alot of elbow grease, ALOT!!!
To all the new guys/gals on here I would like to provide the following pictures of what I ws up against and what my final results were. This is not the only metal polish I have, I also use Opt metal polish but found that the Meguiars gave a better cut through all the contaminants on the wheel. Having the right product on hand can help you work your detailing magic to customers. Charge accordingly if you get yourself into this situation, each wheel took about 45 min.
