  • Went thru a clay bar on one car

I inherited a 98 Lincoln Town Car that my father would never let me touch because "it has a clear coat and that doesn't have to be waxed". I spent a couple days cleaning the car inside and out, conditioning the leather, waxing, etc. It took me quite a bit of work to clay the car, it had stuff on it from where he used to work, and everything that has been picked up since. I went thru a bar and had to start another because I was picking up so much stuff it was like I hadn't washed the car! It now looks great, I used NXT 2.0 on it and the car looks like new till you get up close and see the marks from years of car washes with the brushes rotating against it. I used some 83 on it to clean it up some, but it's had a lot of years of abuse. It's silver and luckily doesn't show the defects as much as a darker color. We gave the car to my mother-in-law and she thinks it looks like new!
too many cars, not enough time.....

Wow, that is a lot of clay to use. It would of been great to see pics. Glad your mother-in-law is happy with the car.

I know the feeling! The used car I got recently had been quite neglected and had similar issues.

In the end, if the person who will drive the car is happy with the outcome of the detailing, you did it right

Yes, that was quite common, unfortunately.

Just remember, clear coat is just paint with no pigment and should be waxed and cared for just as you would paint with pigment.
