  • 190E 2.6 - a diamond in the rough

This '89 190E 2.6 is my wife's car, and the color is called diamond blue (hence the title). Still a bit rough, it needs to be polished here and there and tidy up a few things. Despite that, cleaning this car is such a pleasure to do because of the potential it has. Together with my 300D, this baby Benz performs daily service for me and my wife.

So far so good. Looks great! With a little bit more polishing that blue can really pop!

You've got a couple of beautiful older Benzes there! Where in California are you? We're close to starting up with our Thursday Night Open Garage sessions again, just a couple of weeks away now.

Thanks Tim, Coopers23 and J.A. Michaels. I would love to speed up the restoration if time and money permits. Right now it needs more important things, like a new windshield, cold AC and a decent stereo setup. For now, it's good for point A to B and back...

I think I've only used clay bar (twice) and Meguiar's #7 (once). I need to do it more thoroughly this time and with better paint preparation.

            Hi Michael,

Thanks, these older MB's are just lovable machines to own. Temperamental at times, but definitely keepers. I've been to the detailing classes before, I think it was way back in '05 when Mike ******* headed the demonstration. I'll ask some friends if they want to join and link the threads to them. What's the difference between the detailing classes and the Open Garage on Thursday nights?

Our Saturday Classes are more of a formal classroom setting where we go through the 5 Step Paint Care Cycle pretty in depth. This gives everyone a clear understanding of just what's going on when polishing paint, how to properly evaluate the finish and select products, and how to care for the finish once it's all cleaned up. We then follow up with hands on demos in the garage, removing defects by hand and with the G100v2.

Thursday Nights are very informal and unstructured. It's usually just a bunch of car guys hanging out! While we don't have time, or space, for everyone to fully detail their rides, you can try out any of our products, spend some one on one time learning how to use a G110v2, or even have one of us address a particularly nasty spot on your car.

                Hi Michael,

That sounds like fun! If I can squeeze in Thursday nights for that, it would be great (my wife decided Thursday nights is for laundry and the day I also clean/wash the cars, but that can be rearranged )

I just noticed, how come Mike Philip's name is erased?

Thursday Nights are definitely a good time!

It appears that my predecessor here filtered his last name when spelled with only one "L", so Phi(l)ips is filtered but Phi(ll)ips is not. Not entirely sure why he did that, but there it is.
