  • Detail: 93' Rx-7

Friend of mine's Rx-7 I'm taking care of for him. It needs some love, but is in great overall shape other than the car's swirled/oxidized paint. I will have fun with this tiny car compared to how much trouble the cobra/supra was. Looking forward to it!

Here's an overall shot of what I'm working with:

Did a test panel on the driver's side rear quarter:

Plenty more before/afters will be uploaded tomorrow! Thanks for looking!

    Update:

Got the entire driver's side of the car done earlier today and half the hood.

Here's a few 50/50 shots and an overall of the driver's side:

So far, I've been able to get about 80 percent correction on this paint (some RIDS are too deep to get without wet sanding, and clear coat is too thin to do so).

All correction done with a Flex rotary, a white CCS pad, and some Megs 205 @ 1500rpm for 3 passes per panel.

I'm really pleased with how quickly it's removing the oxidation even with a minimal cut pad such as the white one with such a light polish. This paint is EXTREMELY soft. Each panel blackens the pad so ****ing bad that I have to keep washing it every panel, which is pretty much tripling my time required to finish this. Planning on pulling an all nighter to finish the hood, roof, and decklid. Tomorrow will be onto the passenger side of the car, which should only take a few hours.

Without further delay, here are the final shots:

Bravo, the gray car is black again!

FD's were awesome race cars though. Shame the Rotary's don't hold up to everyday driving.

Great job, what a classic design. And so rare to see an FD that hasn't been molested...

Soap! I take personal offense to that remark. Owner of three rotary's I can safely say it's only a matter of upkeep. Checking the oil and revving the piss out of her at least once a day.

BuLLiTT, sweet job on the 7. Showed lots of patience, something I don't always have on detail jobs.

You probably just know how to tame the beasts. But I have had three other friends with RX-7s and they weren't so lucky. Then again, each of them were pushing over 400whp, that might have something to do with it lol

Although my next door neighbor has a dark metallic RX-8, he just got some new exhausts put on and it sounds very nice. I might try to detail it for him and get some pics up on here.

hmmmm, if the paint is "blackening" your pad, there is no clear coat on the car ay all, meaning its s single stage paint job.

                        However, the car looks fantastic!

wrong. it's a cc paintjob. the pad was 'blackened' from dirt in the cc/cc failure. the rear bumper's cc was flaking away/peeling. this is indefinitely a cc paintjob. :]

                          thanks for the kind words
