  • Detailed: Tranquility Black - Proton Waja CPS

This is my neighbors car. Owner has just bought the car less then 5months and odometer is less then 5000km. Plus owner is a very nice person and would not mind I spend extra time on his ride (has another spare car to commute).

Total time spent on the car was around 30hours spanning over 3days.

Owner mentioned the car has never been polished; only waxed by dodgy car wash centers.

(during work, the images in my camera were again corrupted therefore most of the pictures were gone; might be buying the 550D)

    Car upon arrival (Day 1)

All the door handles were stained by wax residue. Took me some time to remove them.

Emblems still had some plastic coverings which was not removed completely

Exhaust tips in need of some polishing

After the wash (taken later evening)

    Swirls-o-rama throughout the car

C pillar - pretty swirled up

Holograms installed free of charge from dealers/factory - There were more of this throughout the car but this picture is the only one not corrupted.

RIDS on hood - notice more near the MF

    Closeup on defects - Hood

    Rear panel

    The Roof

    Rear Boot

    Side Mirror

Engine shots taken during the day

The engine bay was loaded with dust, grease stains, oil stains and water spots under the hood and also on the firewall.

    Wheels

Wheels were installed at the same time owner bought the car. Some caked on brake dust, tar spots and minor swirls on the lips.

    Some pictures on the interior

Wax residue, dust and grease stains on the jambs

Dust on the louvers & steering column

    Scratch on the centre console

I started off with the interior

    Process:

    • Thorough vacuum for interior
    • Carpets PW+ APC + scrubbed to clean
    • Leather wiped with APC then final wipe with terry towel (warm & damp)
    • APC wipedown on all vinyl, plastic surfaces.
    • GooGone to remove grease stains
    • Leather moisturized with Meguiars Step 2 Leather Moisturizer
    • Vinyl & Rubber dressed with M40
    • Painted panels sealed with M21 2.0

After which I continue on to the engine bay

    Process:

    • Electronics covered
    • PW to loosen dirt & grime
    • APC & Super Degreaser sprayed and scrubbed with myriad of brushes & wash mitt
    • PW to rinse
    • Compressed air to dry
    • Painted surfaces polished with D151
    • Gunk cleaned with GooGone & Body Solvent
    • Plastic dressed with HyperDressing
    • Rubber seals on M40
    • LPS on painted parts : FK1000P

Then moved on to the wheels

    Process:

    • PW to clean/rinse
    • Osren Nanowash on wheels
    • Super Degreaser on tires
    • APC on wheel wells, strut and suspension arm
    • GooGone and Body Solvent on tar spots
    • Wheels polished with D151
    • LSP : M16 (2 coats)
    • Tires dressed on Endurance Tire Gel
    • Wells with HyperDressing

    Finally, moved to body

    Process:

    • PW to clean/rinse
    • APC on foam cannon
    • Emblems & other nooks cleaned with APC and scrubbed with various brush
    • Osren Nanowash as shampoo
    • Dried with Water Magnets
    • Meguiars Blue Clay & ONR as lube
    • Prepsol wipedown
    • G220
    • Meguiars 6.5" & 7" Yellow Pads
    • Meguiars 6.5" Finishing Pads
    • LC 4" White Pads
    • M205
    • M105 (spot correction & glass)
    • D151 on doorjambs
    • GooGone for wax residue removal
    • LSP on paint : M21 2.0
    • LSP on glass: RainX
    • Brightworks - NXT All Metal Polish
    • Light source : Hi Lumen LED torch & sun
    • Defelsko DFT Combo
    • Magnifier

    Here are the final results

Interior - only shot that was working

    Engine Afters

    Wheels After

    Shots taken during paint correction

    Dull and stained B pillar

    All polished up

    Driver's fender 50/50 shot

Afters (slight marring was from not properly wiping off the polish)

    Closeup

    Shots from the hood

    Passenger side 50/50

    A closeup on the 50/50

Please ignore the porkchop holding the camera *LOL*

Finalized product. This is my pièce de résistance

    The rear panel

    Chrome lining all cleaned up

    Emblems- no more plastic residue

    Exhaust tip - After

    Clear flakes on bumper

    Got to love them flakes!!

    Roof

Adding to that, car keys was a little bit dirty so I clean them with GooGone and Meguiars NXT All Metal Polish (images distored for protection)

I truly enjoyed doing this particular car with this particular paint color. Owner was impressed of what has been accomplished and did not expected the level of work render to the vehicle. Infact he helped me out by showing off my work to his friends and hopefully there's more to come.

Thank you for reading and comments/suggestions are much welcomed.

Are you sure those after shots are from the same car? You didn't just took one out from the showroom did you?

Tim, the car looks fantastic. Inside and out. You really made the paint pop. I have no doubt that you will get more business from this detail. Great work as always.

Thanks Ken. I learning to see where the G220 borders with different techniques but I still do use the RBs from time to time.

For the aforementioned polishers, I prefer the G220 due to the power it delivers. Lets wait for the G220 v2 then....(hint to Mike Pennington )

Added: Looks like my research says it's based on the Mitsubishi Lancer. Pretty neat.
